I have been following how many auctions ebid has at any one time, on the 11/2/08 there were 464,221 auctions, today there are 500,266 auctions, up 36,000 in 17 days, that's over 2,000 a day, it will be great if ebid keep growing at this pace.

Well done eBid!!!

thats a good move, contact as many as you can,

I also go thro the bid history on the BUYERS in the cats I sell,
see if they also sell, then contact them thro ASQ on their list, and point them in this direction,

picked up one or two with that, but that is on going so I expect to see more,

If feebay do find it, its because someone has grassed him up and alerted him to their attention. I despise greedbay they really do need knocking down not just a peg or two but hundreds of pegs :)

Would anyone have an idea why the listed auctions has gone down by 10,000 in the last couple of days? From 517,000 oto 507,000, let's just hope a lot of items have been sold.

Many newbies joined late Jan early Feb. If they have been listing 3 day auctions with 10 reposts they would be coming to an end now. Maybe they have not been relisted yet. Certainly the case with me, but I've relisted everything.

10th March 2008, 10:16 AM
Great to see they are going up again, I did try my best and listed quite a few!! LOL.

Madelaine, how long should I list them so I can find them on Google, I list most of my items for 10 days, but have just started changing it to 12 as someone said they need to be over 10 days to show up on Google, does that mean when the listing drops below 10 days it stops showing up?

Thanks in advance for your help :-)

madelaine
10th March 2008, 10:29 AM
I forget the dates but to be added to the Google upload, an item must have at least 10 days to go and a bin price. I run most of mine for 14 days plus a random amount of hours so they show up on closing auctions at different times of the day.

cmjewels925
10th March 2008, 10:37 AM
To qualify for the Google upload, your listings must
be legal have a buy it now price be an auction with at least 7 days to run at the time of the upload OR run until sold OR on first bid.

The uploads are done in the wee hours of the morning on the 8th, 18th and 28th of each month. It can take up to three days after the upload for your items to appear on Google Products.

Let's hope it keeps going up, maybe we will become the second largest online auction site in the U.K ,that would be fantastic wouldn't it?!!

Great wizbooks.

I should be listing about the same, but I read the thread about SecondLife and what some of the ebiders are doing over there and decided to take a look, BIG MISTAKE!, the guys and gals over there are great, really nice and friendly, (and I must say I have been going there when I should have been listing), and the Mall they have built promoting ebid is fantastic, I think we will get a lot of new members because of their hard work, if you haven't seen it yet you should go and take a look and meet the members there! That applies to everyone, not just you wizbooks.

not wishing to blow my own trumpet but I try to list 30-50 items a day (fairs allowing) so hopefully we will be the second largest soon (btw I think CQout is second at the moment)

16th March 2008, 02:16 PM
Yes! I'd be interested to know how to track sales, too...please post how to do that!

ALSO! Have a look at my new post under Promote eBid and Your Stores...the thread is under What Have YOU Done to Promote eBid Today?

Early this morning I received my daily copy of AuctionBytes, a huge daily newsletter by Ina Steiner. In it was an article on OnlineAuctions...yikes! I wrote Ina and requested she do a 'promo' article on eBid! I placed the email link in my posting...so write Ina today and request the same thing!!!

What a tremendous boost this will be for eBid!

As I have said earlier in this thread it would be nice to become The UK's Second Largest online Marketplace which is held by CQout, when I looked at them over a month ago they had just over 600,000 listings, we had 464,221.

The figures now are:

CQout 613,434

eBid 530,885

The figures speak from themselves, come on people list more items if you have them, then we can have the title The UK's 2nd Largest Online Marketplace!!

spaceman76

When you do you must go to the Mall and you will see how hard those guys and gals are working to promote ebid, people here are always posting asking what is being done to promote eBid, well these guys and gals are doing it everyday and giving up there free time, there are so many people in SecondLife and anyone who passes by the Mall will see eBid logo's everywhere, which you don't see here in Real Life, and eBid members walking around Secondlife with eBid T Shirts on, it all helps getting people to be aware ebid exists, and if someone comes up to you in Secondlife and ask's about it you can hand them a note with links to eBid home or other members and your own listings, which in turns brings buyers to us, so it is worth going there if just to learn how promote you own listings and well as eBid.

madelaine
17th March 2008, 11:18 AM
I'm sure Second life is a great way to promote ebid, but I can't do that and Flickr, bebo, facebook & myspace! Ebid could, in particular, really do with more posts on the facebook ebid group. It is in danger of looking like my personal promo page.

I've just started playing on Flickr - it's more grown-up than the others and, because of all the pictures, has loads of possibilities for relatively subtle marketing.

Although CQout claims to be the second largest auction site in the U.K. I doubt it's true. Duplicate listings (in different categories) are allowed free of charge. In fact multiple listings in different categories are allowed where 'there is a logical reason'.

Depends what you mean by bigger, more listings or more unique listings?

Must admit I was thinking of making a daily note of how the total auctions was going and spaceman's post only goes to show how important that stat is.

A 9000 drop in one day is quite a lot it seems to me but then I haven't been here long enough to comment really.

However, is there any way e-bid could throw out some little incentives - nothing major - usually recognition for a good days listing would be reward enough for most of us....... as they list featured sellers how about top listers for the day?

Taking it a little further they could add a good days listing (say 50+) to the buddy system in some way?

Just a thought......now I'm aware of it that '2nd place' position in the marketplace has suddenly become something I care very much about!!!!!

Another thing to worry about.......thanks folks!

auctions come and go 9000 is not a lot compared to a drop in wepays listings many times they drop a million etc.

i would sooner know how many of those auctions were sales ;)

Hi GilfdianRudge

I have been following eBid auctions since the 11/2 and CQout since the 17/3 I was just curious, and I think your ideas about listing and Buddy points is quite a good idea, or if not at least the recognition for a good days listing.

Hi Melin,

Yes that a great idea as well, knowing how many sales there have been.

Tables, brownie points.... I think anything goes as long as it pushes up that auction figure.......... I collected 'common' baseball cards up to a few years ago (Phillies phan) and used to hate it when I went into US stores and they said we only stock the 'good stuff'.

Mike Piazza..........Griffey .........Ripken and Bonds.........where's Rex Hudler?

Maybe we could have more than one table.........Merlin obviously needs to be competing in the E-Bid Premier Listings League ..........slackers like me will have to ply their trade in the Conference North until promotion is finally secured!

I go for the opposite approach - as I have posted a number of times, my New Year's Resolution was to list at least one fresh item on ebid each day that I am at home. It has to be the only resolution ever that has lasted into March! (and I haven't been away for a whole day so far this year).

Hi Manstomar,

So does that mean that we should combine the two? I thought that it was a total of all the ebid sites. Does CQout combine all the auctions from all their sites? Anyone know?

DaisyChain
26th March 2008, 09:04 PM
Im not sure about cqout, but im pretty certain you cant combine the uk and the us listings on here as that 577,000 does include uk listings ( i think)

an example, searching for "book" on the us site and limiting to us auctions only generates around 27000 listings, however using all countries and you get over 67000.

Im assuming the us and the uk sites include items availiable to that country, so i would guess that in terms of listings we cant combine the sites as you would be including some auction listings twice.

hope that made sense:(

When I checked on the UK site and searched for 'book' I found 5,772 in the UK site and when I looked on the US site I found 5,635, so the figures are different to yours, also when I went on the US site I found books from Canada, the US and UK, so if I wasn't confused before this I am now, it would be great to find out from someone who knows how the figures for the auctions are calculated.

Hi Madelaine,

O.K so it's like this,

UK 541,749
US 574,044

Making a total of 1,115,793

Then I went to the Italian site and they have 400,528, which would make 1,515,321, I have been to the Italian site and I am pretty sure they have nowhere near that number, and as you said earlier that is the number AVAILABLE to that country, so we can't work out the total each country has listed with just their items up for auction.

It is too confusing, so I will just carry on posting the number of auctions as in the UK site.

And that is amazing you sold 5 items yesterday, I must be selling the wrong items, I have only sold 2 items out of 220 listings in the last month and a half :(

Hi iwiw60,

That link is great, so now another question, when you click on eBid US and click 'buy' you get their total of auctions 574,470 which makes it 6th in the world, then you click on 'buy' eBid UK and you get 540,889 which makes it 7th in the world, so why aren't eBid IT (Italian eBid) with over 400,000 autions in
8th place? As when I go to the Italian site and click 'buy' that is the number it comes up with.

PSU decide which sites to list & which ones not to list, he did say he didn't want all 14 sites showing. The PSU chart used to show UK,US,Canada & Australia , but lots of people from other sites complained about it so he removed all but the UK.
When the US eBid listing figures overtook the UK ones he added the US again. PSU does tend to be mainly US orientated.
Pheebay are working on a similar site count chart at the moment, which is in beta testing.

spaceman.. I've typed the answer several times already. Each site has the count for items available for delivery into that country. So my items, for example, appear in the US count as well as the UK count. One item.. appears once in each country count.

I'm sorry I don't think you have! Are you saying then if I list an item in the UK it is listed in the US and goes on their count as well? If that is correct when someone lists an item in the US it also is listed in the UK and goes on our count, is this correct? If the answer is yes, shouldn't the counts be the same? Also when I list something in the UK does is also get listed in all the countries eBid has sites in?

It's not important to me either way, I'm just curious. :)

Think what Madelaine means is that if you list an item and tick the box that you will be willing to post it to another country it will show up in the numbers for that particular country. If you don't offer the postage on your item for that country then your item wouldn't be counted over there. If that makes sense!

Mornin Cornishmaid,

Good to see you are on the ball.

Me too, I hate writing long descriptions, but I think when someone is buying a CD they need to know which tracks are on it, in fact I forgot once and I had an email asking for them, I listed them and it sold in 15 minutes to that buyer, also when I am selling DVD's I think people would like to know what the film is about, as some people do buy films they don't know.

When I used to list phonecards, I used to put in the catologue number, date of issue, any marks etc, but I will not be doing that anymore, just the card name and 'good condition' etc.

It's alright for some who can get straight on with the listing. I thought I had better do some washing and ironing first as family tend to moan if they have to run around naked when it's chilly. I don't even know why he was so insulting, after he came back to me I went through every post in the thread, couldn't find what he was talking about, then I read them again and realised how patronizing he was being to the other members, or was it me miss reading the situation!

lol ds is ok just need to understand what he saying or where he coming from which most of us do , don`t think he was insulting but he does like correct grammer lol and if you use forums regularly check out the abbreviations he posted it does come in handy , and i understood exactly what he meant when saying he bought items from elsewhere lol as he barely mentions the other site ,

I second that, good work Michaela, it seems in the past few days we have figures have been getting slightly better, and their figures have been going down, maybe people from there are coming over here too!

Apologies to Captain Spaceman and Sergeant Cornish.

Sir, Ma'am, I'm really sorry, I think I may be part of the problem. So far this year I've sold 258 items and bought another 26 items. That's 284 listings that I've had a hand in removing from the site. Please don't be too angry with me, I am truly repentant.

In an effort to make amends I have just taken delivery of a load of new stock. As soon as I've finished photographing I'll be listing, listing, listing. I hope this will go some way towards making reparation and earning your forgiveness. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/cmjewels925/smilies/please.gif

Well cmjewels now we know the culprit who has been having wonderful success! There's bound to be some setbacks and slip ups in the listing numbers if you must go and sell your items!!!

As long as you maintain the same high standards with your new stock then all is forgiven :D
