Looking for a small raptor, gull or corvid that will be a good companion. Perhaps a rescue bird that cant manage in or cant be released back into the wild or an unwanted pet. Would like to have him/her at home indoors and take for walks to large park and fly them there. I have no experience with raptors but have rescued birds in the past including a lesser black-backed gull who was a great character. In fact I tried to teach him a few words but he would only say "fish and chips" and "sandwich".

"There are legal restrictions about taking birds from the wild. It is illegal under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to take a wild bird. The taking of birds via trapping/shooting mentioned above relate to actions only allowable under certain general license conditions.

Obviously those who take in inkjured wild birds for the purpose rescue or rehabilitation are not breaking the law as they are trying to help and will release the birds as soon as they are able to be returned to the wild.
Anyone wishing to take a crow or a raptor in should seek to gain experience with people or organisations with welfare expertise who specialise in the care of these creatures before taking on one for themselves."
