Military Uniform buttons?
Hi,
Am sorting buttons for listing - have a couple of Half Dome split pin 2 prong buttons, are these Military (very long) where are they used?
Epaulettes or what?
Any thoughts gratefully received.
Sorry, not having any success in loading image, not sure what I'm doing - will try again tomorrow!
Ah, it worked - why couldn't I see it in my message?
Re: Military Uniform buttons?
They were used to make buttons without sewing.

Hi Janet,
Thanks for your help - are these studs used for Greatcoat shoulder straps? Have tried Googling, but haven't found any info.
Many thanks,
Marie.
Re: Military Uniform buttons?
I checked online and it mentioned inserting through tiny holes in the material, that's all I know, sorry.

Re: Military Uniform buttons?
Hi Janet,
It's odd not to find anything, for what must be a much needed item, (perhaps it's on a 'Need to Know' basis!!)
Thank you for taking the time to look - much appreciated.
All the best,
Marie.
Re: Military Uniform buttons?
I think its called a split pin rivet - militarily wise, most commonly associated with German coats and helmets.
The rivet pushes through the coat and through a washer on the other side and then when folded out it creates a button or fixing.
I have also seen these used elsewhere more recently but can't for the life of me think where - nothing to do with military possibly decorative. The one you show looks more decorative as its got a shiny and chrome looking finish.

Hi Goldenwonders,
Thank you for this info - it saves me wandering off in the wrong direction.
Will look into this angle,
Many thanks for taking the time to let me know,
Marie.
