Condolences for New Zealand
My condolences to the people of Christchurch. My thoughts are with the family and friends of people that were injured and killed in this senseless attack. I have family in Christchurch and was deeply saddened to hear that terrorism has reached there.

We, too, have family in New Zealand - so sad.

Let's follow the example of New Zealands prime minister and never mention this terrorists name https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-...-gunman-s-name

Thank you for getting in touch - and for your kind thoughts. The mosque where 50 died is less than a kilometre away. I often drive past it and recently noted that the gates where wide open with no one around so anyone could go in. Our security generally is so low. One of the pleasures of living here. It's now starting to emerge that this gun club where the guy practised in Dunedin had a culture that led one visitor to report his concerns of extremism to the police. It appears they did not document the visit. Opportunity missed. It looks like our gun laws will change in line with Australia to forbid this class of weapon that can be converted to semiautomatic. Some relief that it was not a NZer who did this and appears to be a lone gunman of Australian origin. Ironically there has been a
lot of self-censorship by the media here and you may know more than us. I have not seen and don't want to either, the video and manifest that the killer posted.
Such an outpouring of grief and support. The road to the mosque is still closed and patrolled with people arriving on foot all the time to lay flowers and pay respects. I went to our local farmer's market on Saturday not sure if it was going to be open but they did decide to continue as farmers have a limited window to sell their produce. It was very quiet although to make matters worse, we do have a measles epidemic going on. One stall holder told me that they usually had stalls in five markets over the weekend and have arranged for the Salvation Army to collect any unsold produce on Sunday to be given to the families of the mosques. Nice gesture.
