I've upset an Ebay seller
My Iphone was stolen this week, so I was bidding today for a new one. I won a phone from a random auction that had 2 minutes left. I emailed the seller to inform them that I'll be paying in 4 days when I get paid.
I got a blunt email back stating "Why didn't you ask if this would be ok?" and cut and pasted Ebay rules stating I had 3 days to pay (and not 4).
He said he'll wait but can't post until the 16th as they'll be away from Thursday onwards.
I replied with,
"Hi, I don't mind waiting until Tues 16th for you to post if you're away. I'll still pay on Thursday though. Tbh, I wasn't aware of the 3 day payment rule and didn't think 4 days would be an issue in general.
Regards"
He then replied only with "sorted".
I would never be short with a customer this way, but that's just me. Does Ebid have a similar payment rule?
Re: I've upset an Ebay seller
eBid do not involve themselves in the transaction between buyer and sell, so they do not dictate such things. A seller may place their own condition of sale, so they could state that payment must be made within a certain timeframe.

What Mel said. IMHO that was rather rude, especially if the seller is going to be away himself. I've rarely encountered seller rudeness myself, (and not at all on eBid, knock wood), but when I do, I make a mental note not to deal with the seller again as rudeness really bothers me. I wonder how many other buyers this seller has driven off due to his rude behavior?
Best wishes for many sales to all,

i dont like rude behaviour.
Re: I've upset an Ebay seller
I believe (long time since I have sold over there) they can open up a case for non-payment after 2 days - but they would be unable to close it until 4 days after that.
So a total of 6 days.
As for the response you received...... well you must understand that the average bay seller is probably a few clowns short of a circus that operates out of a two man tent which is not waterproof.

Re: I've upset an Ebay seller
Where did this transaction take place?
If at e-vil, then you should ask this in the e-vil forum.
.... and sellers there will spank you for being slow, and buyers will try to defend you.
If the auction was here at ebid:
.... remind the seller that e-vil's rules don't apply here, and his terms need to be spelled-out .
and that eBID is a little more laid-back.
e-vil fosters an adversaryal atmosphere, by abusing sellers.
Treating sellers like they are just Feebay stockboys.
So they (we) develop the attitude of abused stockboys.
e-vil pushes it's nit-picky rules very hard,
to instill the idea on buyers and sellers, that it is e-vil's store, not ours.
And that you are e-vil's customer, not ours.
In e-vil's termanoligy "to enhance the customer experience"
(To be clear, e-vil is ONLY our landlord)
Till we start treating you like you ARE e-vil's customer, NOT OURS.
Ebay's rule is 3 DAYS, get back in line!
Re: I've upset an Ebay seller
If I understood, the transaction took place on the bay and if I'm not mistaken, there is a minimum of 48 hours that sellers there have to wait to file a Unpaid Item Dispute and an additional 96 hours before they can close the dispute without payment. So just pay before the dispute closes and there should be no problem.
Re: I've upset an Ebay seller
I have been in the OP's seller's position recently.
My gut reaction was the same: "i need my money Now"
Then i remembered my early days as a seller on feebay.
I didn't start to worry till 7 days passed, back then.
So i wrote back "Sure, no problem".
And it wasn't a problem. But it could have been, if I made it one.
This shows how e-vil has "enhanced" MY "Seller Experience"
Telling your seller when you'll be late is a good thing.
Leaving them hanging (not knowing), or changing your mind/not paying are the real problems.
