Shipping from the US to The UK
Is there anyway other then eating part of the post cost myself..To ship a package to the UK from The US without having to sell my firstborn,my house and my Car?
its 15.00 to ship a ring , I guess people could get together and if a group of friends all bought from the same seller they could all split it...but then again once it hits 8.0z the price goes to 22.00....its alot cheaper to mail from the UK to the US I just do not get it ,Its been awhile since I sold online but it just seems a little high...for petes sake its 2.50 just to send a letter?

i should not be concerned about it, you cant effect the cost of shipping, i should just list with the relevant postage, the buyer will make the choice. and for some thing like a ring would you not need tracked and signed for!
Re: Shipping from the US to The UK
Shipping for most countries is expensive. It all comes down to weight and the fuel required to get off the ground and keep the plane in the air along with fees that have to be paid for the privilege of landing somewhere and this will always vary!
I pay £2.17 for up to 100g just for a letter to the USA (World Zone 1) which covers collector coins. Large letter is £2.50 for same weight and zone which covers most loose action figures. A parcel for same weight and zone is £4.20 for me at the moment but my most used weights are 101-250g (£4.90) and 251-500g (£7.75) for airmail to the USA (Zone 1) and that does not even include tracking. This is for standard air mail services with Royal Mail.
Yet those two weights are £3.85 (101-250g) and £5.70 (251-500g) on economy so my argument with Royal Mail has always been if you can clearly afford to offer prices that low for economy and still make profit and it is still delivered in the same time frame as "standard" air mail services (which delivery time is often the same regardless) then why not just simply charge the lower price instead of ripping people off with unnecessarily higher prices for what is essentially the same service and delivery time whether you use standard or economy.
I always face increasing costs on the more highly used lower weights while the higher weights that are rarely used often see reductions or no price changes from one year to the next. And to add insult to injury, 751g-1,000g is £12.40 for me on air mail standard parcels (no tracking) yet £8.50 on economy with same delivery time. With tracking it is £16.86 and you have to use standard if you want tracking.
What a racket shipping is!

If I'm not mistake, USPS rates are scheduled to go up again in January.

I agree with Rokins Toys the shipping charges are a total rip-off. The most blatant I have come across are Special Delivery, they have from what I remember (don't actually use it myself) two categories which guarantee either an early delivery or later in the day. As you would expect there is a hefty surcharge for the earlier time-slot, however, ever since SD was introduced the RM have only had ONE delivery to business addresses which is in the early morning. So how can they justify these charges? Similarly for Signed for where despite the blurb there is effectively no added security for the item anywhere in the delivery process.

Yes postal charges are a rip-off.
The added security for Signed For items is that you are covered for loss between £20 and £50, should the unthinkable happen and it goes missing or it gets damaged (even with sufficient packaging).
The hefty surcharge for Special Delivery means you are covered for loss between £50 and £250, again if anything goes wrong. The added part is that if it doesn't turn up by the alloted time, you can claim your Postage cost back.
I only use these services if the package value I send hits those amounts. Why, because whenever I use Standard, I have had items end up as "Lost". Yet so far, I've never had one "Lost" for using Signed or Special.
At the end of the day, if a buyer want's an item, they will pay the shipping cost.

Might want to check/update your shipping costs as a Standard 500g small parcel (up to £20) to USA is £8.05 at the counter or £8.00 online. £5.15 at counter and £5.10 online for Standard 250g parcel to USA.

Re: Shipping from the US to The UK
I have an online business account (OBA) with Royal Mail due to my higher volume of large letter and parcel shipping so I am not buying online in same way as most sellers do via a public tariff on Royal Mail site and I am not buying at the counter. I get discounts against what you're paying using the methods you use. The discount I get is not much against the public tariff on airmail services but it is still a discount all the same. The discounts on the OBA are primarily for domestic large letter and parcels and gives me discounts on various airmail services and normal domestic letter services too.

Re: Shipping from the US to The UK
I had to send a parcel a couple of months ago, personal not business, but I was going to do it via my Royal Mail business account until I saw the price for 2.5kg (£16.odd) and saw it was the same price on public tariff on the Royal Mail website yet they had also discounted it to about £6.odd. I am like seriously Royal Mail, if the real cost of shipping a parcel of that weight is so low and you still make a good profit on it then why the £16.odd "normal price". That price did not include tracking/signature or insurance. Absolutely disgusting. I often think if these people at Royal Mail are drunk when doing their annual price changes! Makes me think there is some serious price gouging going on.
I never use special delivery myself. I don't have any requirement for it and have never been asked by a customer for it either.
I will use signed for services though just to provide myself with some protection on specific items but for the most part I rarely have items go missing and those that have, have always been returned often with no delivery attempt being made the other end and customers do not know that they should check with their local Royal Mail delivery office after 5 or so days if their item has not arrived within 3-5 days (UK only).
I will have to update invoices for customers so in that invoice email they know to do this if their item has not arrived within the normal time frame as often a parcel is missed off the route for whatever reason and they do not have the sense to put it on the route the next day so your parcel just sits there awaiting collection from the addressee who does not know it is there at the delivery office as they do not receive a card as there was never an attempt at delivery!
If it is not collected then it is put through the return to sender process. Royal Mail now state that items will be held at the local delivery office for 18 calendar days now before being sent back to sender, or 21 days if it is something that requires customs charges being paid by the recipient.

Re: Shipping from the US to The UK
I have just been looking on some weight conversions and saw that 8 ounces is 226.80 grams. I was just curious what it was in grams as that is how we do airmail weights in the UK.
I have seen loads of USA sellers offering single carded Star Wars figures on eBay with shipping costs from £23 to even £30+(with tracking etc.) with some sellers and now I know why it is so high with how the USPS do their pricing. Just ludicrous.
Are the USPS trying to price you out selling internationally and exporting! And I thought the people at Royal Mail were bad when it comes to pricing!
