Using bacs. Advice please?
Hello, I've just started listing ( and hopefully selling) again and thought that in this modern world of apps and online banking, that I would offer bacs as an alternative payment method. But, how does this work here? Do I give my bank details on the invoice? Email the buyer with the details? After years of being told to never divulge bank details to anyone, how safe is it? It's not my main account as I have a separate one for selling elsewhere so if it did get hacked, there would never be more than £50 in there. I'm sure it's a safe way really, isn't it?
Re: Using bacs. Advice please?
I offer BACS as an alternative and have never had anyone want to use it!!! I did have two buyers in Europe enquire about bank payments in the happy pre-Brexit days when trade with Europe was much easier but they did not proceed when they discovered what their bank would charge.
One problem is that a buyer using BACS has no way other than using the legal system to get a refund if the items sold is unsatisfactory or does not arrive. Using Paypal to pay for items on eBid does give a buyer a way of getting a satisfactory solution.
Re: Using bacs. Advice please?
I include my bank details in my invoices and have used bacs for buying and selling on eBid and other sites with no issues.
I don't have PayPal as I can't access my account as the verification code goes to my old mobile number when I haqve tried to change to my new number on my account.
Re: Using bacs. Advice please?
Thanks for the replies both, just need some sales now!
Re: Using bacs. Advice please?
Way back when some of us had a real problem with BACS when a "buyer" set up Direct debits on our accounts. I don't think anyone lost any money but I lost a load of time!

I have used BACs without problems in the past... but I don't offer it is a payment option here.
With Paypal, if you had setup an alternative number, they can call you at login instead. If not you can always contact them via on-line chat or by telephone...
Re: Using bacs. Advice please?
Like Tony41 I've offered BACS on some listings but no-one has used it yet.
I offered it as an alternative to PP, who won't always let me log-in to my account and when moaning about their erratic SCA system realised that at any one time there must be tens of thousands of PP account holders locked out and possibly looking for an alternative way to pay.
Re: Using bacs. Advice please?
Why is it that it is only people in USA who can use their smartphones to make direct payments? In UK we can only make contactless payments, using google wallet or apple pay for instance.
I read this in a Uswitch link
Re: Using bacs. Advice please?
err - what's an SCA system?

This is one where you would ring your bank and ask them, so they can give you security advice.
I have emailed buyers with advice in the past, only had two sales this way. BACS is listed on billsstamps as an alternative payment, but it is not used. The advantage for me is that there is no Paypal fee, so in principle I could offer a discount.
