I once clicked on the bid button instead of whatever other (no doubt totally different looking) button I really wanted on one of my own auctions, and it told me to get a grip. Ish. :)

I'll change it back to 225 but will add new checks for large fonts that will limit the character count to less. Hope this helps out.
Thanks for the input

Changed.
LOL, I did that too.
Before we had test auctions, I used to have a copy of the old eBid page to test my templates, I went through the html deactivating all the buttons, then tested each one to make sure it had worked, I'd left the bid one active!
Got a warning message in red, but I can't remember the exact wording. At least you get a warning, not an immediate ban.
Oops...it was 255 you've put it "back" to 225. One last tweak? :D
I just tried to edit a notice and got a blank box in which I couldn't type. I tried 'new notice' but that didn't work either so I came here and saw this discussion.
I checked on one of my listings and my old notice is still showing. It is actually 250 characters with spaces (eek!) so I suppose I should be just happy it is still there? I actually wanted to ADD a few words to it but perhaps I should leave well alone and leave it as it is. I don't particularly need colours - it has worked for me as it is - plain old text. I would just like more characters. As FBNeNotes says, 275 would be OK. 175 curtails my flow of speech on paper! Could we not be allowed more words if we don't add big letters and flashy colours - a sort of either/or choice?
oops, just edited this as I must have missed reading the pertinent bit - didn't realise that Gazza had changed this to give us more words - that is better!! Is it 225 with spaces or without spaces?
