Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On their Watch List. Ebay has this feature. I think it would be helpful to have it on ebid. That way you have an idea if your item is going to sell even before you get bids.

Much debated (search the forums if you are interested). My view is that knowing the number of watchers gives no useful information. Not all watchers, if any, are potential buyers.

Agreed, most watchers are competitors, so really having such a feature is no use to me either.

My own personal experience on TOS, is that watchers often do translate into sales. I get a lot of views here (not too many sales!), but never know how many of these views have taken a serious look at my items (for whatever reason). Personally, I would like to see a watcher count.
Horses for courses, though!

So if the items had no watchers then they wouldn't have sold? How do you know one of the watchers bought the item? People watch for a myriad of reasons. Unless you know why each is watching then the number watching is a meaningless figure. I've seen, and personally had, items with dozens of watchers - but they ended up not selling. So what did those watch figures tell anyone?
Watchers also really only pertain to auctions, and if (in the absence of true data) the consensus in forums is correct that the auction format is losing ground on all sites to immediate purchase then any case for showing watchers stats declines even further.
If I could think of a single meaningful bit of information that could be garnered from watcher numbers then I would support it. That's not to say I am against providing them - I couldn't care less and would just ignore the facility if it were there. I would much rather, though, eBid spent the time and effort fixing some of the many existing problems with the site's core functions.

Of course I don't know for certain that any of the "watchers" ended up as the final purchaser. All I know is that in my own experience, watched items seem to fare better than the unwatched ones. It's all circumstantial and proves nothing. I still think that showing a watch count wouldn't do any harm.
Granted, fixing existing glitches should be the priority!

Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
My experience with selling on TOS (a long time ago) suggested that to know the number of watchers was of little or no use. Many times my items sold even though there had never been any watchers. This means I agree that a sale is not necessary made by a watcher as Astral suggests. Also, I agree with Astral that eBid should spend any effort they can to sort out existing problems rather than to set up a feature that is of very little use.

On this site it is false hope.

The most convincing reason for not having it.....

Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
I have made several purchases before on the other e site because of the watch list.
If I come across a rare or hard to find item that I am looking for & it shows several watchers, then I go ahead & buy it instead of taking the chance of it not being there later.
eBid is just so far behind the other sites.

If a fact, that would apply regardless Knowing the number of watchers would not alter it.

Neither do I (and never said I did), I just don't believe that it would do any good.

Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
I watch items for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes because I'm a potential buyer, sometimes because I'm snoopy, sometimes because I have one that I want to list and hopefully sell. Sometimes I just want to keep track of the seller.
There are other features I'd like to see on eBid before the owners put in a watch feature.

Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
I have to agree that knowing the number of watchers could do no harm, although I wouldn't rely on it to accurately predict sales.

yes thats one way i use a watch list
a watch list is useful when watching similar items across sites from a buyers and sellers point of view,
the one thing it does do is give a indication to a seller of interest, from whatever angle the interest may be, coupled with the google stats thing it can be a important tool for sellers and buyers alike,
as we have lead the way on ebid for fixed buy it now prices in the collectable market , because of traffic here ,sellers of collectables in particular have become a point of reference were as before there was non , so i suspect a lot of watchers are in fact the competition , studying the market , i know for a fact when a auction finishes on the other side, and i have the same item here at a competitive price it has sold in minutes , thats time and time again, so buyers and the competition , who can be wearing the same hat do watch and buy.
im not bothered if i can use it here as a seller, popular items i sell or have sold and will sell again , a rare item will sell in a couple of hours to a couple of days ,in my experience,
its not were you sell but what you sell that counts

My experience has been the same on eBay. The more watchers the higher the sales price reached.
But the real question is how much money would it take for ebid to implement this software? If it's cheap than why not implement it. If it's prohibitively expensive I could understand why it's not being implemented. As it's not an absolutely necessary feature but can give the Seller potentially helpful knowledge.

If there was a watchers count on Ebid, then I would want the facility to switch it off.
Life is too short for non-essential information

Did you know that the Pot-Bellied Weasel has four toes on each front leg but only three toes on each back leg?

Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
I like a watchlist count because it does serve a purpose IMO. It is probably a real person making the mark and not a robot. It indicates an interest level beyond just a view. More than one tick on an item also puts the viewer/potential buyer on notice that there could be a competitor and thereby creates more demand for action.

Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
I wonder if obay's revalation that it's been inflating "View" figures for years will make a Watch count any less attractive as sellers there are complaining loudly that not only have viewing figures plummeted, but so have Watcher numbers. Sometimes to zero.
Personally I'm not fussed either way about a Watch Counter. If the Management has the time and money to provide one it would be nice. If they don't I won't be greatly upset to carry on without.
In my opinion, if there is spare time and money, it would be far, far more worthwhile to add a Transaction Counter to show that sellers with little or no FB have succesfully completed sales. It would also help to counter ebids detractors who continue say that "Nothing ever sells here" and get away with doing so because of low numbers of buyers leaving FB.
-
Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
I agree with Elench - a sales counter would be more use to the site as a whole.

I agree totally with Elench not many buyers leave feedback but like other things we will just have to go on living in hope!!!

A few more things could use some work before a Watch count etc are added, Front page comments are from 2009 and before, Seller lifetime offer needs to be extended to at least 1 week not 24 hours which give no one a real feel of the site, Import still isn't working for some and some form of advertising is a must IMO although it may be to late now and more payments options really are important. Feedback has never been good on any site, eBay gets maybe 30-40% fb from buyers if your lucky. I am seeing sales more often although few in numbers it does seem like the site is seeing more action

Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
BorderBargains said it: "Seller lifetime offer needs to be extended to at least 1 week not 24 hours which give no one a real feel of the site".
That, to me, is more important than anything else, and, my wish would be to eliminate feedback altogether, such a waste of time as most of my buyers don't bother leaving FB.
-
Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
An approach adopted by some other marketplaces (HipStamp for instance) has been to automatically place positive feedback if a buyer hasn't left seller feedback within 48 days or so.
-
Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
Good point, Vinted do this
-
Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
Maybe a little auto system that sends the buyer a message asking them to leave feedback then lets them know a generated feedback will happen, If the buyer has no issues they will let the auto system leave feedback. There's more important things right now though, lets make this the go to site one day!!!

Re: Ebid Should Let You Know How Many People Have Your Item On Their Watch List.
Agree that it would be luxury at the expense of other 'much needed' improvements ... I am not bothered necessarily to know if someone is watching any of my listings.
As a seller, naturally, I am more interested in sales and transactions that occur.

I fully agree with the Watch List. I find it indispensable in gauging my probabilities of success. If I have many watches I know it will likely sell and more than likely an auction war may occur. If no watches are there, I take it as a message that my price is too high or something else is wrong with my listing.
