Miss eBid's Guide to the Big Apple
No hitchhiking is involved.
Attachment 44466
Just a note to let all of you know that I arrived safely and I'm having a great time!
Pictures and tales of my adventures will follow. I'm even thinking of making a YouTube video.
Thanks so much for sending me on this trip and giving me the opportunity to explore and experience New York.
love,
Miss eBid

Re: Miss eBid's Guide to the Big Apple
So pleased you are enjoying yourself. You seemed rather keen to leave Bath after you had drunk all the champagne ! http://smileys.smilchat.net/smiley/party/champa07e.gif
Well done on raising the YDC money and looking forward to hearing about your new adventure.

Re: Miss eBid's Guide to the Big Apple
Sounds like fun, do enjoy yourself and be sure to visit the theatres, (the legit ones, that is). :)
Best wishes for many sales to all,

Getting this gal to sit and write a postcard took some doing, but I'll stay on her to keep the folks "back home" up to date on her exploits.

We have been walking on Broadway, but not yet been to a show. Perhaps in the next couple of weeks ... there are so many choices!

She has many a winery to visit before she will be ready to go back to the harsh taste of whiskey!

We have had a few nice days, but for the most part temperatures are still hovering around freezing. The prediction is for more snow. The calendar may indicate it is spring, but it hasn't yet actually arrived in New York.

Hope you get some nice weather soon. I remember too well NY springs, some warm and sunny, some cold and even snowy, (as when I met my ex in a late March blizzard).
Hi to Ms. eBid, hope she's doing some fun indoor things like shopping. :)
Best wishes for many sales to all,

It would seem that Miss eBid does enjoy her indoor activities, but I'll let her tell you about that. I think the Sarge has had too much of an influence on her!

Hello to all my eBid fans and followers,
The tale of my adventure begins at the airport. As is expected, I arrived many hours before my flight was due for take off. Why do they expect that? And why isn't there an amusement park at the airport? There is, however, a plethora of bars and pubs.
Before my stay with the Sargent Major I had no idea how much there was to enjoy at such establishments. Making my rounds, I sampled the gin, drank the champagne and checked under every table for gum!
Finding myself sufficiently fortified and with a bit more time on my hands, I decided to do a bit of shopping. More about that next time.
My love to you all,
Miss eBid

Wow - well traveled gal! I'm surprised she left from Bristol. I've flown from there, and it's small, but very nice. In fact, they used to use it for training pilots in WWII, as it was often fogged in.
But, given enough gin, who cares!

Considering her size, Bristol Airport looked very big. :)

So, I wandered around the shops a bit just to see what was being offered. I didn't think I really needed anything, until I hit upon the camera store. I know nothing about cameras, but I thought this one was so cute I had to have it. We'll see what type of pictures it takes.

Finally, we boarded the plane! Somewhere along the way we stopped and switch planes. Not sure where that was. I think I may have had a G&T too many on the flight.

This is all I saw the entire way to the U.S.

I did wonder if it was a bootleg supply from Sargeant Major Cornish - but I'm sure Miss eBid wouldn't stoop to such a thing.

It depends on what you call trouble. Maybe she should come with you

We do have to keep in mind that she is not really that big and one little airline bottle of gin goes a long way for her!

Dear eBid Friends and Followers,
Sorry for the delay in writing. Just returned from a little side trip to the Windy City (Chicago, IL). Thank you Meebo! Think I might have been left behind if it weren't for your suggestion and I would have missed out on some great food. But I digress. And this thread is about The Big Apple (New York, NY).
On a beautifully clear winter afternoon our flight starts its descent into John F Kennedy airport. It has been over 10 hours since I left the Bristol Airport.
Attachment 44772
Bristol Airport is the first airport I had ever seen. It seemed quite large to a little lady like myself. But I really had no idea! I think all of Bristol airport would fit into 1 terminal at JFK. JFK is what the locals call John F Kennedy Airport.
Attachment 44773
The sensory impact of JFK is dizzying. I know some of you think that is because I had too many g&t's on the plane, but it's just not so. OK, maybe I did have too many g&t's on the plane or one glass of champagne too many, but this dizzy feeling was not alcohol induced. Between the people, the luggage, the signs, the stores, the restaurants, the golf carts, and the kiosks there is not one inch of open space. It was quite overwhelming. And then I saw …
Attachment 44774
And the dizzy feeling turned into heady excitement. I made it! I made it! My adventure is really beginning! Now if only I can get through customs.

Thanks so much, Meebo! I'm glad there is someone out there that wants to hear my tale.
Can you believe that someone gave my little thread a 1-star rating! My feelings were really hurt. Attachment 44872
Well, that's enough of a pity party on with my tale of one city.
There was quite a mob. Being just a little person all I could do was to follow along.
Attachment 44873
Luckily, we were all going to the same place …
Attachment 44874
Well, my dear eBid friends, did you know that this upstart of a country requires something called a "passport" to get admitted? I was told there were no exceptions, no matter who I was. Can you imagine! Well, they evidently did not know with whom they were dealing or how determined I was to get into New York. That's when I met my friend, "John". That's not his real name. I just want to protect him. He was kind enough to give me a little "ride" in his suitcase.
Attachment 44875
We did have a close call. I was quite terrified. Izzy is trained to sniff out anything illegal.
Attachment 44876
I learned later that that she sniffs for illegal substances and not illegal people. Good thing I'm made from legal stuff! So there really wasn't any call for alarm, but I didn't know that at the time.
John breezed through customs. It seems he knew about the "passport" thing. Once we passed through the gate John freed me from his suitcase. He was meeting with friends to catch a flight to Rochester, NY. That's where he goes to college.
So, he showed me where I could catch a taxi and bid me a fond farewell.

I know border control can be quite terrifying - especially the US!

So glad the Big Apple will get to see you Miss Ebid :)

She managed to get through unscathed though ~ that's the main thing.
Love her diary! :D

More updates on the way. 'John' is not the only 'friend' she has made. Quite an out going little gal. And I'm told John is studying Criminal Justice at school. Ironic, wouldn't you say?!
