Why do you have no shops ? If you have the seller+ lifetime then you get five free shops. I'm afraid I couldn't be bothered to look at more than the first couple of pages of all those listings but if you had your items in shops with categories then I might be able to find things I would be interested in.
Sales have been quiet for me this January and books are slow sellers but I did sell a book to a German newbie a couple of days ago. Make sure you have your ISBN numbers and bar code numbers filled in or put 'EXEMPT' if there is no number to get your items onto Google where a lot of the eBid buyers come in from.
Good luck with the sales.
I agree with Cornishmaid about the stores, they are very helpful for people who are browsing.
I think another problem with selling things like books is the postage. It is now coming up to eight years since Royal Mail revised the postage system to bring in PIP. Whereby you pay for the item by weight and size rather than just weight as before. We sellers have adapted to the new system; but it seems that vast numbers of people are ignorant of the change. I am convinced that those who do not know the postal service take a look at listings and think we are taking advantage by hiking up the price. Even if you just add on the price of a jiffy bag and round up to the nearest 10p. the trouble is people expect to only pay the prices they were before the revision.
I work in an office and the number of letters we receive that are underpaid (either deliberatly or otherwise) is surprising.
I was trying to get as many books listed as possible before looking at the shops option. I understand that scrolling down nearly 2000 items at 50 per time can be a pain, but bear in mind I expect a potential buyer to be looking for a specific book title or subject - both of which allow access to my listed items instantly without having to scroll through unrelated titles.
I've still got loads more to add and am currently inputing many Military & War books to my listings. I enter ISBN numbers where I have them but pre 1970s books and Book Club edition don't give them.
I'll keep listing until the weather turns and I can get to do Car Boot sales. I really need the room!
Sold 20+ Sci-Fi books to a returning buyer yesterday.
I've taken your advice and opened a store - although having used up the maximum 30 caragories I think I need to open another one as I've still lots of other catagories to list.
I can't understand the benefit of stores when the categories are listed on the left of the search page and the seller puts their items in the proper category. In this case Books, Comics and magazine store would net the same as clicking on the Books, Comics and magazine category on Spot50's page???

A store which is configured correctly is a great asset and will aid stock contol and the manipulation of listings details by the clever use of the bulk edit tool.
Also a store allows a seller to structure their catigories to suit their own needs. Below is an example of my stamp store structure.
Great Britain Mint Stamps (468)
- EIIR 1952-1970 PRE DECIMAL SG515-840 (141)
- EIIR 1971-1980 DECIMAL SGX841-1142 (154)
- EIIR 1981-1990 DECIMAL SG1143-1530 (139)
- EIIR 1991-2000 DECIMAL SG1531-2177 (17)
- EIIR 2001-2010 DECIMAL SG2178-3134 (2)
Does it aid in a buyer search? Or is it more of a seller tool?
I'm just asking because I have always seen advice given in the forums regarding stores. Sellers need to have stores so buyers can view items easier and so far I just can't realize how a store helps a buyer navigate a sellers items easier than how I just searched Spot50's items.
I have no knowledge of search engine optimization other than as a novice.I would have thought that the more "instances" of a search term then the better that result would show.
Another point is that someone might just do a store search rather than a general search.
Unless we can get into the head of the searcher we'll never know the answer to the question of "How can I ensure someone buys my product?!
i aint sold anything.
Shops are a huge help to buyers - often the ebid categories are fine for items in general but, for example Postcards>Art is a bit much whereas my shop cats show clearly that I have a number of pre-Raphaelite cards - saving a buyer from searching for each artist individually.
I divide Postcards>Art into 11 categories not to mention categories for inidividual artists where I have more than 10 items by one person in stock.
Ebid categories are static, and as you see when you choose a category for a new listing. Inside your store, you can call them whonkydonks if you want, and subdivide into ancient, bizarre, and overpricedd whonkydonks. Oh....don't forget the blue ones.
See this in my Bees Knees Store....informational use only, this is not a plug. I repeat, this is NOT a plug. If this had been a plug, you would have found it in the PLUG YOUR AUCTIONS thread.

My stamps are listed into 15 different catagories. If you give a buyer too much information they get bored and go elsewhere. Just keep it to the point in what you are selling and don't waffle
I have had 40 sales so far this month
Best wishes

My point is that you can name your Parent and Sub categories in whatever helpful manner you choose.
I feel the same way how can be so many auctions and Items for sale on this place and so little bid.
I have opened 2 store fronts and place several items I get hundreds of views yet to bids,
I like many came over from ebay and had high hopes for this place
when I was looking for a new place to sell google search lead me to list of top sites outside ebay
ebids was top of list.
I am going to stay as the listings are Free and I don't have much choice but this place is as dead as all the rest
I hate to give them any credit but ebay is king and well looks like they gonna stay that way.
