I like to buy new clothes but the shops are boring with the same stuff in every one
so, I often go to charity shops and find some interesting bits
rip them apart and make something just for me

I don't of necessity totally dismantle something and re-make in a different style, as I have sooooo many clothes I don't have a lot of space to add new ones to. I am also lucky in that my clothing size hasn't really altered that much in 10+ years - I float somewhere between a 10 and a 12 depending on the time of year and tailoring.
Although, I do buy the odd item that I either need or something that really catches my eye. As I am handy with a sewing machine, I can alter it to fit if the size is wrong.

I used to cut the holes in my jeans and wear multi-colored stockings underneath them. Now I just mainly customize my daughters clothes. I make her hairbows and pillowcase dresses, which I play up wiht accessories. I also make bags out of old clothes and what not =)
i use transfers on plain items just to jazz them up a little, also use them on sheets duvte covers, curtians and more. just depends what i have in and what the the kids like.
I rather make something from scratch than to do a major alteration.
Thanks for sharing your ideas and your experience to us, it will be useful to everyone. i like to wear the jeans with short tops or long tops very much. For that i used to made the jeans with some simple work on the pockets and side cuts etc.. i used to wear some shaded jeans also.
