Does anyone here buy or sell pierced earrings that have been worn by someone else?
:-)
i would never wear pre-used earrings
I would wear them after carefully sterilising especially if they were lovely long and dangly.
Well, I've seen lots of them for sale at the thrift shop, so I've wondered. It definitely would take careful cleaning.
Yes I have bought and sold vintage earrings (pierced, clip ons and screwbacks), and still do, (and wear the pierced ones often), all they need is a good cleaning and they're perfectly safe to wear, plus IMHO vintage jools are much nicer and better made than most newer items.
Best wishes for many sales to all,
Thanks Sue. Is there anything special that you use to clean them with?
I have sold many used earrings worn by others. I always clean them thoroughly with a toothbrush and toothpaste (as I do with all my jewelry), rinse and then use alcohol swabs for sterilization first before I offer them for sale.
Thanks Jan. Toothepaste? I wouldn't have guessed that. A person learns something new every day.

Further to my answer above, in teenage years I would guess we have all borrowed our mother's earings or friends when we 'dressed up'.
I think Milton sterilising liquid used for baby's things would be fine as well.
Sterilise them with whisky ... you can always drink it afterwards !!! http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...ng/lol-021.gif
lol
You're reminding of the segments I've seen on TV (Dr OZ) that a person with smelly feet should soak them in vodka!?! My goodness. What a waste of good vodka. Not that I drink a lot, but drinking in moderation is medicinal as well.
Why would they recommend vodka when rubbing alcohol is cheap?
That is gross, i would never dream of wearing earrings that someone else has worn.
Interesting.
Thank you all for your opinions.
:-)
You can also sterilize jewellery with steam! a baby bottle steamer dose it nicely! im a tattooist & make jewellery as a hobbie! so things have to be clean & sterile!!!!
Has anyone sold any of the old clip on style of earrings?
I have bought and sold used earrings. They buying included clip ons. And there are still people out there who don't have pierced ears
Yes, that is true. Not everyone has pierced ears. In addition to the clip style I have some screwback ones around here. Some old ones that belonged to my dear mother.
I did have pierced ears. But not having worn earrings for about 15 years I reckon they'll have closed up. I would not however, wear earrings that someone else had worn. Not even my daughters
I clean the pins and butterflies with desinfectant
I must say I do not have pierced ears so for me it isnt a problem, but I would disinfect even new earrings I bought, if I did have my ears pierced and wear those kind of earrings ecver in the future.
Clip-ons are ever so handy for theatre and costume because not everyone has, or wants, pierced ears and the cleanliness issue is much easier to cope with.
Some jewellers will not take back pierced earrings for supposed hygienic reasons although that being said I have seen second hand ones for sale in second hand jewellery shops. I think it is up to the individual whether you buy or sell. They would have to take them back if they were faulty.
you can clean them with an ultrasonic cleaner and steam them off..i cleaen jewelery everyday.i am a jeweler and the solution to use is 1 part sudsey amonia ans 1 part liquid detergent and 2 parts water.i am into disinfectant that you can order from ear peircing co`s or jewelery supply houses.if you clean jewelery you wont have any trouble.i had a fine jewelery store for over 18 years and have been a jeweler for over 30 years and no one has gotten an ear infection from anything i worked on.ever.so just clean them.if you have any questions please ask.ok.
I don't like wearing pre-used earrings.
