Empower the Gambia money raised here.
A little while ago I decided to stop trying to make money out of my Yarnalong pattern shop on here and give the profits to Empower the Gambia.
Each time I have raised £50 I donate it. Yesterday I reached that target (it has taken about 3 months.. it's been a bit slow recently) and did the transfer.
I was immediately told that my £50 will pay for the taxi to take some deaf children to school for.... wait for it... a whole month! Talk about value for money!
Thank you to all my buyers.
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
That is super news for the kids!!! Well done!

But do they actually get it,Madelaine? The majority of African countries tend to take a cut of any aid sent to them, resulting in a minute proportion of gifts reaching their intended recipient.Live aid have sent millions for over 30 years yet there is still starvation, shortage of clean drinking water & poor education.Where has all that money gone?
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
Empower the Gambia is a small charity which works directly into a group of villages in the Gambia - I know the person who runs it. Every penny goes to those who need it. There is no government involvement.

Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
The next time I paid in £40 - in April. And today I reached £50 and paid it in. The lock-down is improving sales! I've also been given a box full of patterns so I'm listing fresh stock.
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
Our local hospice has started to open the shops up with our nearest one opening last week - so I paid in the money I've made selling their postcards since lock down. £14 isn't a huge sum but they need every bit to make up the £2m they would have expected to raise in the last 3 months.
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
My Pattern sales reached £50 again so I've just paid that to the charity.
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
The charity employs 2 teachers and a librarian, as well as a driver/mechanic for the minibus. They are still being paid although the school is closed - no government help so the money raised on eBid will contribute to keeping these people fed!
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
Another £50 paid over this week. Lockdown has been good for knitting pattern sales.
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
Another £50 paid to Empower the Gambia from sales on here. I particularly like the fact that Sunny has taken up crochet. You are always welcome back to buy more!
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
It took a bit more than a month to raise the next £50 - I paid it over today.
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
And another £50 paid in today.
Thank you to all my customers - without buyers I have only knitting patterns not money!
The money will be used to help pay for Rice and its delivery to people who have no jobs because The Gambia is pretty much locked down but without the Government support most of us have.
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
A bit less than a month this time - £50 paid over to the charity today.
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
£50 paid in, all raised here - nothing ever sells here?
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
£50 paid in to Empower the Gambia from selling knitting patterns on here.
Thank you to my lovely buyers!
Re: Empower the Gambia money raised here.
I've just paid a further £50 raised here, selling knitting patterns, to Empower the Gambia
Last week I paid £44 to my local branch of Cats Protection - some of that is raised elsewhere but the bulk was from sales on here.
