Play your Xbox games on your Xbox 360
The brainy noodles at Microsoft have released a number of patches and updates in the past which allows you to use your older Xbox games with your new Xbox 360. Whilst these updates are FREEly available on the web, you'll notice that quite a few folks are trying to sell them to you on eBay. I don't think that is very fair, so here's how you can get the whole lot for next to nothing.
All the information you'll need to download and use the updates can be found via this link.
You can obtain the update by one of three methods:- Download it yourself, burn it to DVD and apply it. The download - if that is the route you choose - is around 13 meg, so broadband connections are the order of the day.
- Pay to have an official update DVD sent to you - but only once they actually start this long promised service.
- Connect your Xbox 360 to the phone line and use Xbox Live.
Option 3 may be the most likely, since the majority of people will already have their system connected and be playing online. If this is the case, then you probably already have the update automatically installed.
If you are wondering why you'd bother with all this, then take a look at the growing list of original Xbox games that you can now use with your newer console.
So there you go.
Feel free to let me know how you get on with this or whether you found the information useful.

Yes, it really annoys me when people try to take advantage by selling something that is free.
Re: Play your Xbox games on your Xbox 360
If you can sell something that's free is that not good business.
Re: Play your Xbox games on your Xbox 360
If it is something that you can add value to, improve or offer once it is no longer available, then it's all good. Otherwise it's a sure way to create bad feeling when those who have paid for it find out they could have got it for nothing.
Re: Play your Xbox games on your Xbox 360
It should be noted that no matter what patch you upgrade with or how you do it your 360 won't run any original xbox games unless you have an offical 360 harddrive attached to your system.
Even the new slim 4GB ones wont play them as the 4GB is flash memory and not a physical harddrive.

Bear in mind hat you are replying to a thread that began in 2007. These flash memory drives didn't exist back then.

Yes. However, the point is that as flash memory drives didn't exist back then people had to have a hard drive, so I don't see what it is you are trying to get at.
Are you trying to say that the instructions given in the first post are somehow incorrect?
Re: Play your Xbox games on your Xbox 360
No the instructions are correct.
The point I was making was that an official Microsoft hard drive is required to play original Xbox games on a 360.
The new slim 4GB don't have one included and neither did the original arcade version of the360 console. (Was a launch version I think)
Also a 3rd party hard drive won't allow you to play original Xbox games either

In which case, thanks for the update.
Re: Play your Xbox games on your Xbox 360
Are they trying to sell the patch or Xbox games?
Re: Play your Xbox games on your Xbox 360
Wow, nearly two years since anyone replied. Do people still use Xbox 360's?

I like the way you think. What bothers *me* is when a patch is free, and it is no longer available from the original source, and I can't find it. Nobody sells it because it is free, so I may not be able to get it anywhere! And if I do find it, they may be offering the download because it has a virus in it.
Yes, people still do play Xbox 360 games, which are PowerPC based. A lot of the 360 games don't work on the AMD64 (x86) based Xbox One. Neither do any games from the x86 based original Xbox, even though they should able to work on the Xbox One with little effort. Xbox 360s can be had fairly cheaply at this time. Older vintage gaming hardware is gaining value though.
