Charkhari State - Genuine or Forgery?
I seem to be hogging the forum recently.
Out of interest, I have recently been looking at listings of stamps issued by Indian States and find the subject quite absorbing. I have also noticed that in a number of the listings, notably for stamps issued by Charkhari, some sellers have not been sure whether the stamps are genuine or are forgeries. In some cases, I did notice that listings of the 1921 issue all show the same cancellation date ie 29 March 1942. I have also noticed the same cancellation date on some of the 1909 and 1912 issues - this is probably a giveaway that the stamps are forgeries. Looking at the images of these stamps, they appear to be very simple in design and therefore easy to forge.
I cannot find any guidance as to the identification of genuine and forged Charkhari stamps - are any forum readers aware of any such available guidance?
Thanks for reading this thread
Ray
