Thread: oh dear, I am having a dilemma - moral advice please???!!

Default oh dear, I am having a dilemma - moral advice please???!!

Apologies as this may be long, but what would you do?
I regularly use another online forum for buying and selling and am quite a trusted regular on there. Another trusted reg who I get along well with had a bit of a tragedy last month when some scrotes broke into her mum's garage and nicked her 11 year old brothers bike. He is physically and mentally disabled and had a special bike custom made at a cost of £3.5k, on which he was training for the 2012 olypics. The bike was returned in a vandalised and unsuable state.
I normally have a prize on there for my milestone customers, and was reaching my 600th customer. Instead of sending her the prize, I decided to raffle it and donate the proceeds to help pay for Sean's bike.
Another trusted reg pm'd me and said she would like to send me a PO, but couldn't post until Monday, the day of the draw. I ummed and ahhed about it but I thought that since she was trusted and it was for a good cause, I would take a risk. The money has been sent from my paypal account to the fundraiser, inlcluding the extra £10 which I was expecting to get in the post (which I personally paid fees on) Now the worst thing has happened, she won the draw and I haven't recieved the PO!
I have pm'd her and put a thread up for her but no response.... Do I send her the prize and a bill for £10? Do I do the draw again?
    Any advice greatly appreciated!

Wait a bit, if you mean all this has only happened today. It's too early to assume the worst. Cross your fingers and keep busy for a while!

no, it actually happened two weeks ago, I am only just acting on it because I have been flat out at work. Didn't think much of it as the funds had been sent to the fundraiser and that was the most pressing thing - great news about that though; there was an appeal on radio local and a businesswoman phoned up to say she would but him a new bike and sent a cheque for £3.5k. The rest of the funds went to repairing the old bike, which can now be used by another youngster, which is great news.

Oh right, I see. That's very different. What a shame I would certainly hesitate to send the prize to somebody who hasn't done their bit, and hope. I'd send a further message giving them a deadline, such as two days, to complete their part of the bargain, and telling them that if you haven't heard by then you will redraw.
Glad to hear there's some good news!

Don't you have to do a NPB, as I am not sure which site or if a charity auction works the same as a normal auction....just being cautous in case you have to cover yourself with your 'trusted customer'

I see what you mean Minx (btw, who is that on your avatar, he is gorgeous! He looks a bit like Alex Turner?) but it's not an auction site, just am informal public chat type forum.

You've got to be in it to win it as the saying goes, if she hasn't paid for the ticket (and it sounds like she's had plenty of opportunity to pay) then it shouldn't be in the draw

    Does she know she's won?

If she dosn't.......say nowt........& pick another one!
If she does, give her a deadline & stick to it!

All the other "entrants" will be wondering what's happened by now

That is Matthew Mcfadyen I am a great fan of his, I get teased by the others about him all in great fun but I think he is brilliant he was the latest Mr Darcy in 'Pride and Prejudice,' previous to that, Spooks star Tom Quinn, I lurve him to bits, and I adamant about that...(Big massive grin) he is ............
