Hmmm... all nice advertising for eBid, but I'm bit puzzled about the detail of the article. They say eBid getting gold is all the more impressive because Amazon didn't even make bronze... but Amazon *auctions* are moribund, and nobody would expect them to score at all in a competition for auction sites.Seems a bit disingenuous!

So you think eBid being recognised as a better venue than Amazon is an unworthy, or even deceptive thing to say?

<sigh> No, that's not what I said in the least. I said that making a big thing of ebid being a better *auction* site than amazon was strange, when it's not what amazon is known for and their auctions are either dead or dying, is misleading. You do know that amazon auctions are *not* the same thing as the amazon marketplace? Have you tried to find an amazon auction?

I think good publicity for ebid is great, and celebrating their good results is absolutely the right thing to do, but this particular article goes the wrong way about it. Why bother to mention something that just devalues what ebid has achieved? They got gold! Great! But what they've done in this piece is the equivalent of saying "Lewis Hamilton is leading the Formula One Champsion, fantastic, and Pele never even came close". The achievement does not need to be qualified by a misleading comparision, it stands on its own two feet.

Personally I thought the inclusion of AuctionLotwatch by Web User as an "eBay alternative" was the really bizarre thing but people take away what they want to take away I guess.

I take your point about Amazon auctions but, as Amazon was not mentioned in any other way, for eBid to be compared favourably with the largest online retail name in the UK - albeit only one part - was a positive worthy of mention IMO.

Let's hope the overall feedback from eBidders keeps other media interested in reporting on the site.
