Thread: Free holiday

  1. #1

    Question Free holiday

I won a free holiday to Tunisia with a company called EN-FUSED I got an offer with in the 2 years of their dead line in which they had to make an offer, all I had to pay was a £40.00 fuel excess and get to the airport. I sent the cheque off and it was returned by return with a letter saying oversubscribed and I would be sent another offer when one was available, soon after they went bust. I then found out they had been taken over by WHOOPYDOO I contactated them and to my amazement they had all the details and soon after I was made an offer The free holiday in Tunisia had the following payment options I had to pay the fuel surcharge of £40 plus I had to pay £16 for any baggage checked to the hold, £12 meals and £30 transfers at the other end baggage, meals and transferes were optional and I accept, but what concerned me is I also have to send them a cheque for £380.00 which the hold and only cash if I fail to go on the holiday. Anyone out there in eBid land any experience of their promotions ?

    Thanks C2C

I have no knowledge of these organisations, but as ejean says it is suspicious.
It is quite possible for a company to go bust, then set-up again with a different front man, same staff, same everything very quickly. My advice would be to not pay any money and to contact trading standards (or whoever looks after consumer protection issues, if you are not in Britain).

As a matter of interest how did you win this holiday? Did you enter a competition or get a phone call telling you that you were selected with no previous contact?

Sorry about the part where I mentioned another Country, only I was reading the summary of messages below the reply box while I typed. Unfortunately this doesn't include the poster's location.

this type of scam is in the press all the time. If you're having to pay money you haven't 'won' anything

Did you even enter a competition in the first place?

Be very careful I wouldn't go paying any money up front. Certainly check them out first with trading standards and citizen's advice bureau. Most of the companies that offer free holidays have a hard sell package, that they put into operation when you get there, where they try to get you to sign on the dotted line for a time share or holiday club. Be very wary. Who is to say they won't find some excuse to cash that cheque while you were away so you couldn't cancel it.

These scams are neverending. I would NEVER send that much money to an organization unless I initiated the contact. In a case like this, I would insist on paying by credit card so I would have a chance of getting my money back if the trip didn't materialize. It's very likely they'll cash your check and you'll never hear from them again.
