Thread: stg what does it mean on a cheque?

  1. #1

Default stg what does it mean on a cheque?

Never seen it before, it's just that I received a cheque for a massive £2.43 for a sale on here last week and it has the letters stg£ before the figures box.

Any idea? Does it cost me to bank them?

Probably something to do with differentiating between pounds and Euros as used in the south. Maybe the Irish hold accounts for both. There must be someone here from Ireland that can answer.

Im not from Ireland, but my OH has relatives there. You are correct. They print cheques that differentiate between sterling pounds and euros but what was the Irish Pound

    did that make sense?

Irish Pound and GBP are different amounts. STG or sterling on the cheque confirms that it is GBP and not Irish monies...

I see in my absence that one's been covered...

... which is handy because it means I won't have to bluff my way out
