Mrs Bentley and Shezz, I am very sorry for your losses. I had to get a beloved pet put down a couple of years ago and it still hurts.

You would deprive a small beating heart of a caring home because it hurts you to lose them! ?

Dont be too harsh, when i lost my dog of 18 years, i said the same thing, that i wouldnt have another one. i dont think that is being selfish.

Please accept my sympathy. I've had pets all my life, and it still hurts when I remember the special ones.

I felt the same way a few times, never again, it hurts too much. Somehow I found myself back at the shelter, taking home little ones who would have been put down if I hadn't taken them. They've rewarded me with love, laughter, and occasional naughtiness . . . just like children, but not so demanding. They give so much and ask so little.

Right now I have two elderly maiden lady cats, fortunately both in good health. I know I won't have them much longer, but they're so good for me. They remind me to live in the moment, the way they do, and not worry about the future.

    You misunderstand me.
She seems a caring person and that's what small hearts need.
I've lost 5 of my little friends over the years. Each loss a heartache.
But my wife and I knew they lived comfortable, safe, healthy and happy lives as part of my family. All were taken from the local animal shelter and had we not given some a home their lives would have been much shorter.

I dont think thats very fair JD, especially at this time

My thoughts are with you OP, let the grieving take its time and you might realise that one day you will want another animal. It can never take place of the ones you lost, but the happy memories supercede the sad.
    Best wishes

The way to speed up the healing and shake the greiving is to bring another small beating heart into your home as quickly as possible.
It is never a replacement, but a new friend to keep you busy and keep you company.

For me this is true also, but not everyone is the same. When our lovely cat Stiggy got run over we were devistated, but we took in another cat a couple of weeks later that needed a home. Then a month later we got another one . For us, getting Tom really helped ease the pain. Rather than looking at the empty 'Stigs favourite spots around the house' we had the fun of learning about Tom, and him learning to trust us. He's now part of the familly.

It hurts like hell to loose something you love, especially a loved pet ((hugs to Mrs B)).

(((((((((((((hugs))))))))))) Eighteen years is a long time, I'm glad your dog had a long and happy life. They aren't just pets, they are the furry members of our family who sometimes have better manners than the human members do ;-)

When I had to have one of my cats put to sleep because of illness, it broke my heart, and I said never again - especially since I had three more cats to care for, which is plenty for me. Eighteen months on, and I still cry buckets and miss her terribly, but in August, along came the next little bundle of trouble. I saw her, her brother and sister aged 8 weeks old, wandering into my garden and thought they were cute, but said no more, never again etc. Then my youngest spotted the kittens outside their home, she gave them all a fuss and the man from the house almost threw the kittens at her to get rid. So, when my youngest asked if we could have another, I asked if they were the kittens I had already seen, she said yes, so we had another little one to add to the collection. "Yes" was just the first word out of my mouth, and I said it with my heart and not my head. It will break my heart when the next one passes over, and I will say never again, but you can bet sooner or later, some unwanted curtain-climbing bundle of fluff will spot me as a sucker, and the tally of cats will go up again.

I think we all say never again, but it is only the strong who stick to it :-)

Every time we get the heart ache and the tears...... We say..".NO More"

We don't seek the grief and sadness... We seek freedom to travel without the responsibility of another four legged friend . We seek a life without that tail wagging fiend who demolishes furniture, or the one who "Innocently"steals best steak off the work top we thought was out of reach,,,,,,,No More deposits of hairs round the house. We want the garden to be poop free and dug only by ourselves.

    We KNOW what will happen.....

    THEY WILL FIND US

In loving memory of Max 12 years old. Rscued when barely weaned..........Guard Dog extraordinaire,( He raised the alarm when burglers were breaking into the Old folk's house across the road whilst they were away on holiday, by quietly waking me and pulling me to make sure I saw what was happening. How he knew exactly what was happening was amazing as our curtains were closed! I Phoned the police and the Thieves were caught in the act.) carer and playmate of the children and the most gentle friend to us all.
The hurt will ease but the memories , thank goodness, remain

PS This may ease your grief a little

My heartfelt sympathies. I know just how you are feeling - I myself have gone through this time and again and always said the same - 'no more'.... but then after a while the grieving eases and we move on a little. We move on but take our loved pets with us in our hearts.

It somehow enables us to offer our home and lives to another little furry friend; and believe me, you will one day too.

Big hugs and let the grieving process carry on - you are NOT being selfish - you are being just like thousands of other animal lovers. It is natural to feel as you do and it is part of the grieving process

    Hugs and love to you.
