Thread: UK Driving Licence Holders ...

  1. #1

Angry UK Driving Licence Holders ...

I appologise if this has been brought to everyones attention, but as I've not been around much I'm not up on all the gossip. I did peek, but couldn't find anything relating to it, but still wanted to ensure that everyone was aware of the dangers of this bear trap in the making.

The info is too long for a post - leastways I think so, so I've done a quick lens on squidoo to get the info out.

It concerns the plastic pink photo part of your driving licence. According to an email we had from a friend - they are only valid for 10 years from the date of issue.

    For more info read here.

As far as I know Shezz they haven't said that the old one's need to be changed yet but I imagine they will soon to squeeze every penny out of us that they can !
It was the same when they brought out seperate passports for children.

Nope, it has been this way since they were introduced. My guess is, its the same as a passport, people can change quite drastically in 10 years (looks wise) so I suppose they have to do this to keep the photograph reasonably upto date.

I am surprised though that so many get caught out with this, surely you check the details when you receive them

I think the confusion is that the old paper type licences were valid up to the drivers age of 70, and then they had to be reapplied for. In all fairness, when I sent my old paper licence in for a change of address, and subsequent licences in for change of address and name, I've only checked that they had the name and address details correct. I've always presumed that the expiry would co-incide with my 70th birthday.
