Thread: Sellers beware. NEW RULE knifes etc

  1. #1

Default Sellers beware. NEW RULE knifes etc

Gazzas just posted this (don't know how to do the quote) http://helpdesk.ebid.net/showthread....488#post970488

UPDATE - Removed Collectables > Swords & Knives category. After reviewing the effectiveness of our keyword alert system for dangerous knives and bladed weapons it has been decided that this will be a never ending cat and mouse game with the sellers of these items. The sale of all knives, swords and machetes is now not permitted on eBid.

So I presume that if you have any knife / sword / blade listed you need to remove it.

Personally I can see this reasoning for the good, but also think it's OTT with regards what seems to be a blanket ban on knifes as craft knifes etc will now be banned.

Guns are not mentioned, don't know if guns are already on banned list though

A shame they've had to go for the blanket ban, but at least they did try to work out a better solution, and I can quite see that it would be an extremely difficult one to police.

I think you both mean "knives".

Oh, sorry, I thought I was on the spelling pedantry thread for a minute there.

    Just done a quick search

Knife brings up 562 auctions, most of which are safe, an example is

    Electric Knife

    knive/knives brings up 52 auctions

    sword brings up 853 auctions

Now I am wondering if G&M or someone at eBid towers is going to take the time to look at all the auctions with these words in the title

More than likely wait for someone to report them.

Which just proves admin's point. It is already a cat-and-mouse game with knife sellers and now they'll be starting their auctions in even more categories which will make it even harder to locate those items which should not be listed.

The only way around it I can see is for certain keywords to flag up at admin when an auction is listed and then have someone manually check each and every auction. That of course only works if they have enough time to check each auction and if the seller uses the keywords.
