Thread: Skype set to leave e**y?

How much did they pay for Skype when they bought it somewhere around $4 billion I think, so selling for $1 billion that's a pretty big loss on the balance sheet, never mind they can always charge sellers more to make up the shortfall

And, sure as (Easter) eggs they will. Their new policy of free listing for private sellers (a stab at the [eBid] competition) is not worth the paper it's written on, as it only applies to items up to 99p.
As for Skype itself, I have never used it until last night, when my granddaughter, visiting, wanted to talk to her sister in Australia and needed my broadband connection for her laptop. I've always been wary of 'new' technology myself - too long in the tooth now to adapt easily!

There was an article in today's newspaper about this. GreedBay wants to sell Skype because it needs the cash to prop up its auction site in the United States. Seems profits are dropping fast. Can't imagine why.

Sounds like the shareholders are angry and need some quick cash incentive to stay on board. As with other efforts to make a quick buck, this looks like it will be a poor long term strategy. Unless feeBay can develop their product into something that will keep the pennies rolling in then I can't see how they can maintain their present size and strategy. It is not like Microsoft, whose money now mainly comes from the fact that all new PCs are shipped with Windows and is probably the only reason they are still as big as they are.

Eh, I use Google Voice and Magic Jack. I tied Skype ages ago and hated it.
I have new listings! Check them out!

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.
Fed up with paying to sell?

Or less - like they did when they cut my fees in half, and allowed me to double my listings.
