    As Astral said, that's because all the featured auctions are queued up ahead of you.

    You're about halfway down page 6 of that link ( as I type this). You will slowly rise as the auction nears it end time but you will always be behind all Featured listings.

    Popular auctions should be ones that have been viewed a lot. When they use bids only they would only be popular for a few seconds if people wait till the last few seconds to bid, as they do.
