If it's the little flat ones that you stick into the record and leave it there, it's a spider.

Not sure what the large thick ones are called that you drop onto the spindle of the turntable, then change the records using the large holes. (That's the ones I usually use.)

For those who aren't fussy about filtering what I sell - Take a look at ALL my stuff above. - But for more specific listings, take a peek in the stores below.

I don't think we called it either one. Funny name like block or peg or something. But I will think of it sometime soon.

I think they are just called Inserts or (probably incorrectly) Spindle Size Adaptors.

WIKI sez they are called 'spiders'.

RCA 45s were also adapted to the smaller spindle of an LP player with a plastic snap-in insert known as a "spider". These inserts, commissioned by RCA president David Sarnoff and invented by Thomas Hutchison, were prevalent starting in the 1960s, selling in the tens of millions per year during the 45's heyday. In countries outside of the US, 45s often had the smaller album-sized holes (e.g. Australia and New Zealand), or otherwise a pseudo-spider was "built-in" to the record, which could be punched out if desired (ie the United Kingdom, especially before the 1970s).
