What happened to the good old days when charities were grateful for a few pence in little envelope? Nowadays they want a minimum donation paid on a regular basis - preferably by direct debit.

Too many charities outsource their fund raising nowadays as well. All these bags for clothing that drop through your door (on an almost daily basis) are not from the charity named but from a company collecting in the name of the charity. Too much is being creamed off before the money generated get to a charity. I know fund raising costs and a charity would have to meet those costs if they did it themselves but it just feels too 'commercialised' now.

Sounds terrible but I am getting meaner as I get older - Lifeboat of course, and choose some local ones - but some of these 'biggies' are so arrogant and seem to think they are due something cos 'it is for charity'

I get really cross when I donate to a charity and then they bombard you with mail begging for more.

I like to support lots of different charities but there are a couple where I have sent a donation and the amount of stuff they have sent me afterwards must have used up the entire amount I sent to them in the first place ! They are both large well known charities too I'm afraid they won't be getting any more from me.

My donations will be going somewhere where I know it won't all be used on admin' and will be used to actually help people !
