We all are. Commercials tell us they use 70% of raised money to help the children, kitties, whatever. and then you find they have raised 50 million dollars. SO 30 cents times 50 million? Yikes, that is a lot of money for operating the charity. Seems they then lose sight of the cause.

I met a girl in my previous job, who had work at the head office of a medium size charity (I cannot remember which one). She told me it had been an eye opener. Her boss was earning well over 100K and when they had to have meetings somewhere for marketing and so on, she would only stay in the Hilton and often in a suite! Their office was top notch and everything they purchased was always among the most expensive, be it paper, pens, note pads etc....
I totally agree with giving to the local charities. I don't give money at the moment as I cannot afford it, but I am always clearing out bits, and I give a lot of old samples from work which would end up in the bin. I also buy in charities quite a bit as I also love spotting a bargain.

The only other charity I regularly support is the Macmillan Nurses. They helped to look after my mum before she died. The local fund raiser is a friend who works very hard arranging local events and collecting for them for no reward.

Apart from that I will buy things from charity shops but only if they are at a reasonable price.
I support, Macmillan for the same reason as Wiz,
& Dogs Trust, but I donate when I can afford to, & not on a regular basis.
Mum used to sponsor a dog, with Dog's Trust, when she died a friend of hers took over the donation, in her memory.
I took her clothes to the Dogs Trust Charity Shop in Herne Bay Kent, which I'm sure she would of approved of.

I'm happy to use the local charity shops (especially when the money raised is used locally) ,& that way support them but some are so overpriced now, it's cheaper to buy new.

Our local Samaritans is run by 5 or 6 elderly ladies & has been for many years, they price stuff to sell, not sit on shelves. The shop was done up last year by a donation made by a local person, just for that purpose. After Christmas, it's going to be "taken over by professionals" , they are already starting to intefere, & make the ladies feel unwelcome.

We don't get the bags for unwanted clothes here, probably because the council already provide sacks for textiles & shoes as part of our weekly collection.

Typical aint it! 5 or 6 elderly peeps who probably feel 'the shop' is great for their social life and have probably had some great fun and banter raising the money for their charity. . .

Then along come the so called 'professionals' whose first act will probably be to take a (chunk of Money) they would call it a decent wage outa the charity for god knows how many staff.

Items will be priced to stay on the shelves for a long time as the 'proffesionals' try to extract their highest price.
The fun and the banter will disappear and the old ladies will be back to leading probably seperate and lonely lives as a massive part of their social lives has been stolen from them by blinkered, greedy people.
