    Cool Margarita recipe

Does anybody have a tried and tested margarita recipe that they love, that they can pass on? That's the drink, not the pizza.

I know there's a million of them out there on Google, so don't feel you need to go search folks, thanks - but does anybody have a personal favourite? Maybe one of our American friends? Is TexasAda about? Best magaritas I ever tasted were in Houston. *bliss*

To inspire those memories, here's a little picture to get you in the mood...

    One bottle of Tequila.
    One bottle of cointreau.
    one lime
    two straws.

Stick a straw in each bottle - suck from both bottles at once - suck slightly more on the one in the tequila bottle.
Then squeeze the lime gently into mouth.

Carry on until you get the suck strength to the required taste.
    Or fall down.

I think that version might be a bit full-on for my taste. Mind you, it does mean I only need to buy a lime!

Ahah! A question for California (it was invented here, you know).

    Margarita on the Rocks

    2 teaspoons salt
    1 lime wedge
    2 ounces tequila
½ ounce Cointreau or Triple Sec
    1½ ounces lime juice

Place the salt in a saucer. Rub the rim of a cocktail glass with the lime wedge and dip into the salt to coat the rim thoroughly. Don't toss the lime wedge! Mix the liquids, shake or stir well, pour into the cocktail glass over a couple of ice cubes. Garnish with the lime wedge.

Those of us who drink these regularly keep a little plastic tub filled with the salt so we just lift the cover, dunk in the glass, and close.

I prefer Triple Sec to Cointreau, but it's your choice (and depends on what's on hand). And I was yelled at for using the sipping tequila in a Margarita, apparently the cheaper stuff tastes just as good. It was my bottle, too.

Some people here prefer the version with ground up ice cubes, like a slushy for grownups. I don't have the recipe for that, but I'd guess it's the same with a couple of ice cubes added and mixed in a blender.

    Not quite Tia

Looks like it was first invented in either Mexico or Texas (according to Wikipedia)

    But luv it anyways!

Brilliant, thanks! I already have the Triple Sec and something called Jose Cuervo Especial which appears to be a decent tequila, but it's so long since I last used them I couldn't remember much about the proportions and never mastered the art anyway. Your recipe sounds splendidly straight-forward and I shall start practising as soon as I can get a lime! Thanks again.
