Unhappy Keep your fingers crossed PLEASE

Tetley, one of my 2 cats is very sick.

2 weeks ago he was either hit by a car or attacked by another animal - the true answer we will never know. He had a massive abcess under his tail and the tail itself had come away from the body in a 'V' shape. His tail has been partly amputated (the rest will have to go as it is dead) and the abcess sorted - 34 stitches later. He's on antibiotics.

The poor little thing is having trouble going to the loo and the vet said, unless he has been able to poo by Wednesday he will have to be put to sleep - he's only 5 years old.

He looks so sad. Today we took him to the emergency vets 30 mins drive away as we were worried and didn't think it was fair to leave him for another 3 days - a very, very hard decision to make.

The vet checked him over and said he's doing well. He asked does he pee? Yes, we said. That's okay then. He's fine.

I now have one vet saying he's fine if he doesn't poo and another vet saying he'll have to be put to sleep. So, PLEASE keep your fingers crossed that little Tetley will be okay.

In a way, Tetley's unlucky but he's lucky to have you caring for him. It's great he's on antibiotics. Maybe he will hesitate to poo for several days but maybe after a while the backup will be so formidable he will decide to jettison regardless of the possible pain. Maybe the longer he goes without pooing, the better his injury will be healed anyway.

Poor little cutie has been thru a lot,of course he is not going to be "regular" for a while. Hopefully he will start to heal and get better soon.

I would take that vet's advice with a grain of salt. Did he suspect a bowel obstruction/internal injuries and that is why he said that? If not, his advice seems a bit premature.

Keep us posted on how the little guy is doing.

    Whoa!

Just nipping out to see to the animals so will have to be quick ...
My cat lost her tail in an accident over 4 years ago. Upshot was it stretched both her bowel and bladder and they also shifted (they are now on her back)
The vet left it longer to see if she could 'go; herself - about 3 weeks in total (she was in the vets for 2 weeks)
Could be that you may be able to empty her manually?
My cat could go at first (weeing fine, the poo simply worked its way out and then dropped)
Then both stopped. I now 'do' her manually but this is made easier by the bowel and bladder being on her back rather than underneath.

    Gotta go, animals need feeding.

My best wishes to you both. Maybe take Tetley to the second vet on Wednesday if he has not produced any poo yet to see what he says. And see how the poor little mite is doing, I think you will see if he is feeling very uncomfortable.
