Can I ask why,after using the name a1 gardens since 2004,you're changing it because someone else wants to?Surely by usage alone you could stake claim & stop them from using it?

we probably could but its alot of hassle and we were thinking of changing it before the cowboys came about anyway, this has just given us the push to finally do it

Must admit that a name like 'A1 whatever' or 'AAA whatever' puts me off a firm. Always smacks of cowboy to me and I avoid them. I engage a firm on reputation and not on their position in the telephone book. If your business is established , as you say, then don't worry where in the book you will appear.
