    Default The Science of Creationism

This appears to be a topic that can not easily or objectively be discussed. I was hoping to get some serious and helpful insights concerning this important topic. If anyone has references of scholarly material on this topic, it would be greatly appreciated. Also would appreciate if you could take the time to respond to the poll.

Note: You can select multiple answers.

I can't say that I really care for either viewpoint.

Creationism was given to us by the Catholic church when one of their own used the old testament and calculated the earth to be only a few thousand years old. If that's the case then the creator has to be a real practical joker to plant all those dinosaur bones to make us think the earth was millions of years old.

Evolution says that we're the result of a few million years of random mutations. The ancestors of modern man received the good mutations that allowed us to win the survival of the fittest race and have offspring that survived. The key point to the theory of evolution is that the only thing that matters for successful evolution is for the species to survive. How they survive doesn't matter.

I voted that I don't believe either theory as I don't actually give two hoots about where I might have come from.

The survey responses aren't as clear cut or decisive as I thought they would be.

The survey responses were exactly what I would have expected, given the replies to the previous evolution/creation thread

I haven't seen any truly "scholarly material" on this topic. The few articles I have read did not give me any insight on the topic, only on the people who invented this theory.

I had a conversation with a priest about evolution many years ago. He told me that the Catholic Church does accept evolution, and it acknowledges that intelligent life "probably evolved on other worlds than ours." His words, not mine. I doubt very much if the Catholics believe in Creationism. The Catholic Church never taught that the earth was a few thousand years old. That age was calculated by James Ussher, the Anglican Archbishop of Armagh, and was mentioned in the King James translation of the Bible, not the Catholic Bible.

For the record, I am not a practicing Catholic. However, I will defend the Church (and any other entity) when blamed for something it didn't say or do.

Yes, that's right. I don't know how I came up with the Catholic church. James Ussher is the one normally associated with Creationism. Of course, a lot of other people have also done the same calculations.
