    No, they're in collision mode now and waiting for the first hit.

    I luv this sort of stuff - and they believe they will learn a lot about the creation of our universe.

    But isnt it about time they came up with something really useful? Like a machine which converts water to wine or beer in 5 seconds?

    Nah... that's what your fridge is for, storing it until five seconds before you want it.

    Of course they do NOT know what will be the result of their experiment. There has been some talk of creation of a Black Hole. Seems to me that to risk the latter is to risk the very existence of all of us and our planet.
    Learning about our universe is one thing, but tampering with it is another!
