    Default Are buses inherently dangerous?

You are always hearing the phrase 'hit by a bus'. Why a bus? Why not a car or a lorry? Do buses seek people out?

You didn't know? It's their total attitude about life and what gets in their way. Buses like to be tough and so far only trucks can beat them, but trucks don't have an attitude like the bus does.

Yep! unlike Thomas the tank engine, Berty the bus sometimes has an attitude problem, and Gordon can be a right snob too

And why do mother's always tell you to make sure your underwear is clean in case you get hit by a bus while you are out. I'm pretty sure one of the first things you would do on getting hit by a bus is soil yourself anyway.

When my dad was teaching us to drive he always said "you never want to hit a bus or a dump truck". Immovable apparently because of weight.

SO getting hit by one when walking can't be good.

Last year in Des Moines they had a number of pedestrians hit by buses, the injured were within the crosswalk areas and the bus drivers simply didn't see them. The city went so far as to change bus routes to minimize the glare of sunrise/sunset hitting the drivers, and also took all left turns out of the routes. Eventually they put the left turns back in, with great fanfare and warning in the press.

A friend of mine who drives a gasoline tanker truck advises people to NOT stop suddenly in front of the milk trucks that deliver raw milk from the dairies to the processing center. She says these tankers do not have baffles within to slow down the sloshing of the milk, something about the baffles making the cleaning process between loads prohibitively expensive. Of course, you wouldn't want to stop suddenly in front of her tanker either

Yes the big freeway exchange is right thru center of Milwaukee and we have had horrible accidents when contents of trucks shifted if they tried to stop too fast. Sides of beef, lard, meat scraps, milk, hundreds of cans of peas, etc, all over the exchange. Sometimes it flips the truck end over end, or it skids sideways.

We make jokes about truck drivers but gosh that is not an unskilled occupation at all.

have you ever seen a bus driver?! they're crazy, i think they really want their buses to live up to the phrase of 'getting hit by a bus'.
