    Default Natural selection

Watching 'Seaside Rescue' tonight and it occurred to me that the rescue services and advances in medical science are responsible, in part, for the number of moronic people that now populate the UK.

In olden days such person's own stupidity would have acting as a brake on their survival and therefore their ability to reproduce. Now such people are protected, often to the detriment of normal folk, and survive their own idiocy, breed, and pass their genes on to future generations.

I'm not advocating that we let them perish but I think we are stacking up problems for the future of mankind.

    Totally agree with you.

Also annoys me when I hear of people being rescued because of their own stupidity, putting others lives at risk in the process.

If stupid people carry on getting rescued...that 'Darwin Awards' book is going to get thinner each time

    Music.
Plato says when the music of a society changes, the whole society will
    change.
Aristotle, a contemporary of Plato's, says when music changes there should be laws to govern the nature and the character of that music.
Lenin says that the best and the quickest way to undermine any society is through its music!

Possibly I'm a nitwit for enjoying this movie by the creator of Beavis & Butthead, but it truly reminds me of modern life and the outlook for the future.

    Idiocracy
A narrator explains that natural selection is indifferent to intelligence, so that in a society in which intelligence is systematically debased, stupid people easily out-breed the intelligent, creating, over the course of five centuries, an irremediably dysfunctional society. Demographic superiority favours those least likely to advance society. Consequently, the children of the educated élites are drowned in a sea of sexually promiscuous, illiterate, alcoholic, proletarian peers.

In California it doesn't rain very often, but we have special concrete flood channels that run from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, just in case. They're bone dry most of the time, but if it rains there will be a news report on TV of someone who "fell" in (after scaling a chain link fence and ignoring the "No Tresspassing" signs). They get their "15 minutes of fame" on television at the expense of the taxpayers. If it were up to me, I wouldn't send paramedics, Fire & Rescue, helicopters and TV crews. I'd toss him an inner tube and wish him an enjoyable ride to the beach. It was over 100 degrees Farenheit, today but incredibly, there was some rain in the LA area. Maybe I'd better turn on the TV! Might be missing a good show.
