Default Why is the post office only opened 1/2 a day on a Saturday?

When so many people need it opened all day?

And so many people are looking for work?

    Have I missed something here?

It's the Post Office Worker's Union that make them close at mid-day on Saturday.

I have some old Kelly's County Directories (on CD) for Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, and in the 1890s1900s, Post Offices opened at 6am and closed at 11pm x 6 days a week!

The one I normally use is supposed to be open until 12:30 every Saturday, however it's hit & miss if it gets opened on a Saturday.
For this reason I don't guarantee posting on Saturday

I just dont post on Saturdays.

    Stopped doing it ages ago.
I just figure that if an item is shipped on a Saturday, the chances are it would sit around all weekend, then get delivered Tuesday.
So I post all orders received on Fridays out the following monday

Ours is open until 4.30 on Saturday. It's the only one for miles so round the end of the month it has queues for Tax Discs.

Be grateful you are not in Canada - no Saturday delivery and no post offices open on Saturday.

Our Barclays has gone back to the 3.30 pm close and no Saturday opening ('as no-one made use of it') BUT if you make an appointment, the office above the bank is open until 7pm.
