In a few weeks, I am going to start playing table tennis and need advice as to the following

Best sort of bat
Best sort of bat thickness
Best sort of table tennis balls

It depends a lot on how you want to play and to what standard.
The table tennis season is just about to start so local league clubs up and down the country are having practice nights.
If you track one down and borrow a few bats to try then out and the type of blade and rubber makes such a difference and no one can guess in advance what will be best.
For example I am a mainly defensive player so I use a very light blade with thin reverse rubber one side and long pimple on the other. Someone that liked to play fast would hate my blade and play poorly.
An alternative method is that one of the best firms that supplies table tennis equipment is Bribar ( I am not on commission although I do buy from them) they are holding a bat testing day when they will literally have hundreds of different bats at Draycott sports centre,

i used a reversible pimple bat.got plenty of spin from it.
