Thread: This is a long shot but I am after ........

  1. #1

Default This is a long shot but I am after ........

I know this is a long shot - but I had to ask ..........

I am in need of some 'fake eggs' - nest eggs - the sort that a poultry farmer would put in the nest boxes to encourage the hens or ducks to lay eggs. The type that I have found online are either brown or white plastic or rubber, but I am after 2 white china or porcelain ones - the older ones. Does anyone have one or 2 lurking around anywhere gathering dust that they could part with for a few sheckles?

and No - I'm not going to start keeping poultry - I want them for display purposes )

    Many thanks.

The only eggs in the house are the real thing or the semi precious stone ones and they are all sorts of colours - except white.

They are easy enough to make, hard boil an egg or two, fill a tray or dish with soil or sand, push the egg on their side half way in the sand, make sure it is packed tightly round the egg, carefully remove the egg fill the hollow with a polyfilla mixture or similar leave to go hard and remove, if you have done 2 or more join the halves together with more mixture, clean up and smooth the outside with wet sandpaper leave to dry again and then paint whatever colour you want

Babs, if you've actually got plastic ones you don't want, I'll take a couple for the RNLI! Been saying that's what we need in our displayed egg cups for ages!!

This just gave me another idea of DIY: empty an egg shell by blowing the contents out into a bowl and then fill it with polyfilla (in case you have never done this: small hole with a darning needle into the pointed end and a slightly larger hole in the other end, then blow through the small hole until you are left with an empty eggshell. We used to paint the shells for easter)

Sorry Kim - I haven't got any plastic - only polished stone & onyx - but fancy some plain ones to break the patterns a bit - but, if I have to resort to buying in a few plastic ones to do the job, I'll pick up a few extra & send them to you as a donation ))

No worries I was just checking. That would be great if it happens, but no pressure. And I'll let you know if I stumble on some in the meantime (sounds messy!)

Now't wrong in checking - besides - it could have been that I had plastic ones & wanted to change them. We could end up doing an Eggschange ))

Just a thought that may help you - Years ago there used to be a sweet, I think it was called the Kinder Egg - chocolate with a 'surprise' in the middle. If memory serves correct it was very popular with kids. Is that still around? Anyone you know of that may have some of those eggs stashed away somewhere - if they'd be any good to you of course.
