Not so, as Gazza indicated in #5 above when he asked for input on how best to implement it within the eBid structure. I tried hard but couldn't find any in your post.

Hi Mel, I guess you missed the <sarcasm> tags on my comment!

Ebid's code isn't open source, and I doubt Ebid are about to hire me as consultant, so lacking either of those options I don't see how I can provide useful input, do you?

My point was that another auction site has overcome the difficulty, so evidently a solution is possible.

Weird. I still don't see that your post has any foundation, sorry. Gazza has highlighted the difficulties and rather than just a) force a compromise solution on us that might make many unhappy or b) dismiss the idea or c) just take a shot at it and hope for the best! he has come back and asked for user input so that a solution can be offered that best meets our needs. And this thoughtfulness and invitation to participate in the decision process provokes you to sarcasm and surliness. What are you like when people say "no"!?

OK, fair comment Kim, I was indeed responding rather hastily.

Problem 1 seemed like a non-problem to me. Conceptually there is a very clear distinction between free postage and postage not known, and doubtless this is recorded as a boolean in the database, so sorting results with postage not known coming afterwards is technically easy and I find it very hard to imagine anyone expecting or wanting anything else. Indeed, studying the thread more carefully, I see that's what you've said yourself in #7.

Problem 2 I see as extremely difficult. I know nothing about calculated postage. When I saw Gazza's comments my initial reaction was that the problem was insoluble. But then I recalled that I've been surprised on ebay to see my search results sometimes include American sellers with shipping to the UK. I have no idea how they do that, but the fact that they do do it seems to indicate I was wrong to think it insoluble.

Paraphrasing my post #10, what I was trying to say was "It's possible somehow, and it would be a HUGELY welcome enhancement because it would certainly change how I use the site myself, and therefore if there are other people like me[*] it would change how others use it too. An excellent thing!".
[*] Kim, you'll probably say fortunately there are very few people like me!

    Thumbs up

I have next to no computer skills and cannot offer any constructive advice on how to set up a search by price and postage but I am 100% in favor of having this type of search implemented. I would suggest that, if possible, that the "price calculated or unknown price" be put at the bottom of the search as this might get the sellers to put postage on their listing. When I look on ebag for something I always search using that method and I always bypass items that do not have a postage amount shown. From the previous posts on this subject, it seems that I am just one of many that do this.
Gaza, if you can do this without to much trouble, I am sure it would increase sales on ebid. I really appreciate the fact that you see suggestions from us sellers and reply to them. You spell out the problems with providing the enhancements and ask for suggestions. It shows us that you are not the almighty king sitting on your throne in your ivory tower (like some other auction sites to remain unnamed) and ignoring the peasants wishes! I don't believe that there is any other auction site that gives this kind of personal service.
Thank you and keep up the great work!
