Online Merchants Face Annual Increase in Shipping Costs

Whichever carrier you use to ship your orders, you'll be paying more beginning in January. FedEx announced on Friday it would increase shipping rates for FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery by a net average of 4.9% effective January 3, 2011. Like UPS, the 2011 rates are actually rising by 5.9% but will be offset by a 1% reduction in the fuel surcharge.

FedEx had previously announced it would increase shipping rates for FedEx Express, also effective January 3, 2011, and said it would implement a change to the dimensional weight volumetric divisor from 194 to 166 for U.S. domestic services.

The USPS had announced that its prices for Priority Mail and other Shipping Services would increase overall by 3.6% effective January 2, 2011, pending Postal Regulatory Commission review.
    Just FYI........sigh.......

    x2

I blame terrorists for the extra security costs that postal services must be passing
And i blame oil speculators for forcing up the price of petrol that postal services must be paying

Well, I can't speak for UPS or FedEx, but I blame I lot of the USPS probs on the fact that during the late 90's into 2002 they were on a "spending spree". They spent over 4.5 million dollars on the Olympics...sending all the top brass of USPS which included tickets, penthouse suites, all food, spend-spend-spend. After that fiasco was brought to light they have been under tight scrutiny and all of a sudden around 2004...."gee, we're going broke...we can't stay in business without price increases..."

    Yeah.......right...........highway robbery!

And here I thought federal wage freezes might help the situation (re: USPS price increases).

I guess I really do need that calculator after all....

Best wishes for many sales to all,

If USPS would stop their Priority Mail TV ad campaigns (which I'm sure costs millions) then they would not have had to put up prices again in January.

They are spending money they don't have!

    Red face

Doesn’t matter for me and my items, most of my items I send for $0.44 in here or overseas same price…bigger my items I send for $1.00, or $2.00 or $3.00 in here or overseas same price…and top of that buy one item in one day pay that low shipping buy two or more items from me and no more extra charge for the shipping…and that’s good deal…so Buyers Welcome…

Meanwhile,in the UK the goverment are determined to rush through a sale of 'Royal' Mail to anyone who cares to buy it.
Judging by all the previous sell offs this will result in fragmentation,a much poorer service and price inreases and restrictive rule changes.
Even the poor old queens head might vanish off the stamps,we'll probably end with a picture of Dale Winton.
