How very brave you are to let a puppy into your life and then give him up!

Vonz, what a lovely story! Is this a one off or are u planning to take on another one and/or have you done it before?

There is a blind person here in my town who I know. He is on his 3rd dog since I first met him. It's absolutely wonderful what those dogs can do for their owners.

It's something i've always wanted to do, i've trained my own dogs before.........but never to the extent of these wee pups. Relieving themselves on command was a new one for me lol. Walking with 2/3rds of their body length in front (not to heel).
Sitting patiently (about six feet away) while their food is prepared.....a whistle command says they can move and EAT!

Cracker was my first Guide Dog, so I wanted to wait until i'd received my own "critique" before I embarked on training a second one.

I would have another puppy tomorrow, but my family circumstances have changed beyond recognition since Cracker went for his advanced training - i've now got an elderly Aunt & Uncle more or less totally dependant on me & both in wheelchairs.

Training a Guide Dog pup is a 24/7 job.......and they have to go everywhere with you. Can't be left on their own for more than two hours etc. etc.

At the moment, i'm "emergency boarding" for both qualified dogs and puppies in training.....but so far i've only had a puppy for 2 days (a weekend wedding lol). The dogs are so valuable and everyone who comes into contact with them has to be CRB checked....so they can't just be left with a next door neighbour iykwim.

Hopefully I will get another bundle of fluff one day........but definately a black, little boy lab!
