    Default Character Set Glitch

    A number of emails I have had recently have had £ instead of £. These include favourite search emails and successful sale emails. Very minor but needs tidying.

    I sometimes get the  character on my listings. I can't work out why.

    Yes, it still needs fixing. It looks very unprofessional particularly for new users/buyers. It is appearing on most emails - I haven't noticed yet on my listings but this is probably because I rarely use the £ sign in a listing.

    It's because for some reason, the pound sign as typed by using the keyboard, is not being translated into xhtml.
    It seems a faily common problem on websites these days, I know it was happening on the Argos one a while back.

    They don't seem to use the code Alt+0163 for the £ sign

    Alt+0163 for the £ sign is for using the keyboard to get the sign to show in normal documents.
    XHTML does it differently mainly using the ampersand so £ needs to be written as £

    Thumbs up Re: Character Set Glitch

    Hi bunsock & billsbooks;
    I was reading your forum thread and since you had a problem, that was the same or similar as my own, I copied a link to your thread, which I was going to save until this problem was resolved. It occured to me that the support people might be too busy to notify us all individually, as there are probably thousands of us that have this problem.

    I checked my listings this morning (Monday Oct. 24th) and they seem to be completely fixed, even a closed listing that sold, and I had planned to re-list when this problem went away. I also checked the original problem of disappearing text in the description editor, when using the "list similar" link, and it also was okay!

    I'm also contacting you directly thru this site, in case you are too busy to return to your forum thread and look there. So I've tagged you and now you're it, so pass this info on to the next person you know who has this problem, to let them know that they seem to have the problem resolved.

    I think this is a great community, and everyone seems to want to be helpful, when newbees or others have a problem. Thanks to all you mentors out there in cyberspace.

    God bless, and may the force be with you!

    Very many thanks Ken.

    Support should note that this problem is occuring in many eBid generated systems emails (as well as on some listings) such as Successful Sale and Favourite Search emails.
