Default Stainless Steel universal exhaust pipe clamps

    Hi all car enthusiasts

We are an engineering company, and in particular I am not in to DIY on cars

But we have for a while sold universal exhaust pipe clamps in bright zinc plated mild steel. These are cheap and cheerful

We were recently asked to make some in stainless steel - now what a great idea we thought - they will last sooooo much longer. So we made and wondered about offering them out generally

So I wondered what you all thought - Universal exhaust pipe clamps in stainless steel - yes more expensive that standard BZP but will last so much longer

    What do you think?

With regard to the average modern day car which is not likely to become a classic car. there might not be much of a demand for stainless steel clamps.

However, I would expect some interest from the classic car collectors and from those with more modern cars that are likely to become collectable as classic cars.

It might be a good idea to make contact with some of the classic car clubs and get some feedback from them on what the potential market might be.

Some of the bigger classic car clubs commission bespoke reproduction of parts that commonly need replacing and there might be an opportunity for one off production runs with some of them.

From my own personal experience, my old cars are all 1960s and 1970s designed Fords and there are some very active members clubs for Fords of that era - the Escorts and Capris in particular. Those members who show to Concours standard will not touch anything that was not made by the original car manufacturer. The others though would probably be interested in purchasing stainless steel clamps.

    Thank you.

I'm pretty sure there'd be interest for anything in stainless steel on the cf club site.
I,for one, don't care whether it's an original part as long as my van stays on the road.

    Hi.
It's also worth looking into the possibility of re-producing U-bolts/clamps in stainless for the fixture of leaf springs.
There would certainly be a market for these items. And it will cover a very wide range of earlier classics.

    Cheers.
    Paul.

    Hi Paul

We do a massive range of stainless steel u-bolts / clamps. It is our main business. However I am not really in to cars - can you give me some info on leaf springs. Do you mean make lead springs, or make u-bolts to attach to leaf springs?

    Hi Ron.

I'm talking about the U-bolts that clamp the leaf springs to the ridged axle on many earlier classics.

Obviously if you do intend to get into this market you will have to obtain the original U-bolts from various models
to get the correct dimensions/shape/thread etc' but generally speaking on a lot of older classics they were pretty much the same overall size.

As mentioned earlier your best outlets would be the classic car clubs for various models such as: Austin. Morris. MG. Riley. Wolesley.

Best of luck for if you do decide to go for it.

    Cheers.
    Paul.

I can give you a contact address for the SPOG group (Spare parts Organisation) of the 2CVGB club (over 3,000 members and probably 10,000 cars!) if that would help. I'm sure there would be interest if the price was right...

    I would appreciate that, thanks
