Is Royal Mail running slow????

Dont know if anyone else is having inland UK postal problems - well not problems, but long delays- at the moment? I seem to be having slow mail, both in and outbound.

A couple of weeks ago I had a package sent to me which took 10 working days to arrive (second class)
I am waiting on a cheque from someone on t'other side, which is now at 8 days and counting (first class)
A couple of people are wondering where thier DVDs are (I sent at the start of the week, first class)

Simple answer is yes


Our in and out post is always hit and miss.

Out bound if posted 1st class to UK average delivery time is 7 days BUT if sent 2nd class average delivery time is 2 days (thats why everything goes 2nd)

In bound averages 7 to 10 days regardless of 1st - 2nd or parcels.

It's a pain but got used to it now as it's been like this for 8+ years.

Ive had a few items slow to arrive, and i assume there is a build up of mail happening.

The cynic in me thinks its done on purpose for the staff to get some christmas money in through overtime.

I had one model a couple of months ago that I sent 1st class recorded and they took 16 days to deliver it. Just recently I have been having recorded items returned as not being able to be delivered. They are supposed to re-try the delivery of recorded mail but I don't think they can be bothered. Seeing as Royal Mail is getting worse I have started applying for compensation (delayed mail) every time one takes longer than their stated delivery times. (as shown on Royal Mail dot com). So far I have had couple of the .75p surcharge for recorded items refunded. At the moment I am searching for a reliable courier in my area who doesn't charge the earth.

Hasnt there recently been something in the news about cutting down on posties and that people are not getting what was morning mail till late afternoon ?

Cant remember exactly what it was but it was on a sellers board due to concerns over irate buyers not being aware of postal changes.

The answer is a definate YES !!! I have made some comments about slow post on another thread. I do a lot of international mail, mainly from Central Europe, with a few letters to the States and Canada, as well. Letters are taking roughly 14 days from both Germany and Eastern Europe, to arrive in the UK. Both the German and Czech postal services are very good. The delay has got to be at this end. It amazes me, how the Royal Mail can deliver loads of junk mail, but fail when they are delivering items that you really want. Grrrrr ! Rant over !

Most of my items are posted in padded envelopes.

I usually send Second Class, and put them in the local post box which is emptied at about 5.00 PM.

Posted an item this Friday East Kent to Edinburgh, and it arrived on Saturday.

So its not all doom and gloom.

It would be interesting to find out exactly what percentage of mail is actually delivered on time.

Mine's been fine in both directions so far. I thought something had gone missing, but the customer had just failed to collect it from the sorting office (though this may well be because they didn't bother leaving him a card!) No names, no pack-drill, eh Ron? Oops.

I've been getting slow inbound mail for a while and logged in today to find i've picked up a neutral, with the line "took ages to arrive" surely thats not my fault. It was posted on the 1st Nov and i have no means to control postal times. Really disappointed
