Thread: Computer problems yet again

  1. #1

    Default Computer problems yet again

Laptop froze, so I forced it down and re-started it, now it's saying Operating System not found. Maybe it's time to get a better Laptop.

Have you anything plugged into USB ports? If so, remove them and try booting again.

Is it an old laptop or new one, cos unusual for th OS to disappear like that, what OS have you got vista, Win 7. You may be able to do a restore if you purchase the OS but make sure you get the original windows OS full package. Unless its under warranty ??

It's around 4 and a half years old. Has windows vista home premium on it. The laptop is an advent 8117 model

I have a laptop with vista, and it's a perfectly good piece of kit which has been serving me well for years. Generalisations are rubbish. Generally.

    Download Ubuntu.

It is a seperately run operating system - can run it from the cd - no need to install it.

You will then be able to access all other folders on the laptop.

    Hi

First off, try booting into the bios screen by tapping F5 or whatever key your laptop uses to boot into it.
Once in then see if your hard drvie is listed.
If it's not listed then see if there is an option to auto-detect it and reboot it.
Would check this before anything else as that might be all that's required.

    Cheers

    Les
