Default Your Store Titles and Google Shopping

I just have to say...I cannot believe how many listing titles I've found with ALL CAPS and/or Free Shipping in them.

Those sellers, if they want their listings to show up when a potential buyer Googles for what they're selling are.....had better WAKE UP!!

Google's search engines will automatically remove all listings with either of the above.

    Rant finished...off my soapbox...

eBid does not feed all caps titles to Google; they change them to lower case. They actually go too far, changing legitimate capitalisation (e.g. VHS) to lower case. So, having all caps in titles on the site is OK (if not aesthetically pleasing).

The 'Free Shipping' issue is only a recent Google whip - so sellers will need some time to catch up (if they can be bothered). I feel some sellers are starting to think it is not worth bothering trying to keep up with what Google wants this week. Google may be working towards a model for Google Products that does not include the likes of eBid sellers.

    Just wondering
If a seller wanted to offer FREE SHIPPING would it be beneficial to change the wording ( no charge for shipping ) etc.
or is the fact that free shipping is just not acceptable in their opinion.

    The latter.

Follow our Editorial guidelines closely. For example, do not include any promotional text such as "Free shipping", and do not use BLOCK CAPITALS.

Any way of saying 'Free Shipping' would be classed as promotional text.

AFAIAA, if you set shipping as included in the price when you list, that is shown as free shipping on Google Products.

Mel, I'm somewhat aghast at what you said..."eBid does not feed all caps titles to Google; they change them to lower case."

So by what you're saying then, when I use UCLA in a listing title (the 'known' usage for University of California Los Angeles) eBid is putting those letters in lower case??? What??? Ridiculous...

I wondered about that when this last round of changes came through.

Agree 110% - I use all caps in my titles (with no Google shopping problems) as it's easier for me to read, half blind since my earliest years and getting more so with every year. I'm looking into getting a white stick to go with my sunglasses and maybe a hat for spare change.

That last bit is a little spooky sounding, hope you're wrong but Moo rarely is...

Happy New Year and many sales to all,

No, some caps is fine, eBid lowers caps when the entire title is in caps.

    Not true.

They used to force lower case if there was a run of capitals over a certain number. For a while now they have been forcing all but the initial capital to lower case. I have complained about this in the glitches forum.

An example from one of my items:

    As listed on eBid:

The Hot Rock (1972) VHS PAL Video - Redford, Segal

    As appears on Google Products:

The hot rock (1972) vhs pal video - redford, segal

My title is correctly formed. They way eBid changes and submits it makes it look as if I am unable for format a title correctly.

On a side note, while looking at this I noticed that there is something amiss with eBid's feed. Just look at the mess made of the descriptions of my items; all the letters 'a' have been stripped out - both upper and lower case.
