I love looking at these first thing in the morning. It sets me up for the day
Thanks again for sharing these, lovely!
Window shopping Ernakulam:
The city of Kochi (formerly Cochin) is made up of a number of different parts including Fort Cochin where Bro & Sil are camped ATM, Mattancherry, Willingdon Island & the mainland area of Ernakulam. A 20 minute ferry ride costing 5 rupees (for both) gets you to the busy sights of Ernakulam & some window shopping.
#1 Fort Cochin: cricket in the park. (locals call the huge tree a "Hoyer" or "Raintree" depending on who you speak to.)
#2 On board ferry to Ernakulam.
#3 One of the sites along the way.
#4 Un- Royal Enfield in Erna.
#5 Snazy auto rickshaw in Erna.
#6 Ferry terminal at Mattancherry.
#7 Another "peasant" Enfield in Kochi.
#8 Guess who found the "Mango Duble" ice-creams in Kochi.(12 rupees each = not much)
So glad everyone's enjoying the virtual travel like yours truly.
Thank you for helping me this morning to wake up. Nothing like a little travel first thing in the morning
Lazy Sunday in Fort Cochin:
Bro quote: "This is said to be the oldest European-built church in India, having been constructed in 1503 by Franciscan friars (say that fast 10 times) from Portugal. Vasco da Gama the sailor-man died in Cochin in 1542 and although his tombstone is in the church (we couldn't find it with the service in play) his remains were apparently moved back to Lisbon 14 years later."
#1 Original wooden structure built 1503 & replaced mid 1500's.
#2 No photos allowed inside.
#3 Signage is very literal & correct. (this right outside the house)
#4 Caption said: Me, caught hot-wiring a Royal Enfield Thunderbird!
#5 Break in the cricket in the cool of the Raintree.
#6 Local youth commandeer the camera.
#7 OK kid, now give it back!
Hi everybody, just bringing you all up to date on the fact that our travellers are supposed to be moving on today to their next location?
I say "supposed to be", because there is a national transport strike in India today.
However, Bro & Sil have been told that the trains & auto-rickshaw drivers WILL be working - go figure!
I guess they'll only find out for sure, when they arrive at the station with their luggage here's hoping.
BTW, the next stop is Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum for short)
or as I like to call it - Thiruvananthapuram - a - lam - a - ding - dong
To all our Indian friends out there - I'm just kidding OK, but some of your place names are a real challenge for the rest of us
Anyhow- as soon as I get word & pix from the place, I'll let you all know - Ciao 4 now, Allen.
G'day everybody, Well I haven't heard from the dynamic duo for several days now, & I can only presume that they did in fact make it to their last location, despite the national transport strike?
However, WiFi access is most likely a problem, or, they are having laptop issues?
I'm hoping that they can make contact at their next stop, (via an internet cafe perhaps) as it's a larger city/town.
Hopefully we'll have lots of lovely pix to see when that happens.
Cheers, Allen.
Hi all, just a quick update to say that I've heard from Bro & I was correct re the lack of WiFi access or even a decent internet cafe with functioning equipment.
The current weather there = 35c & 87% humidity, with their new location of Madurai (tomorrow) to be even hotter!
Naturally they are hoping for better net access from there to upload the latest pix.
Ciao 4 now, Allen.
