This is from an email from support when I requested a FVF Refund:

"You will have the option to claim back your Final Value Fees between 20 and 75 days after a sale has been made. You must have left Negative feedback for the buyer and reported the bidder as a NPB (non paying bidder), then you will see the option "Refund final value fee" in the AAL drop down menu."

I ask for payment within 10 days of choosing Buy Now and if they don't pay after 10 days, I do all of the above mentioned and then ask for a FVF Refund so I can relist the item. It seems eBid now thinks differently.

Having allowed us to cancel sales easily, it's only reasonable they put some processes in place to stop us grabbing back all our fees, I guess.

I found it odd since I had requested and received a FVF refund just a few days ago with no issue. This response threw me for a loop. I don't want to relist unsold items until I receive a FVF refund from the previous non-sale. So now it seems I have to wait even longer to relist. Just doesn't seem right to me.

Once you've given up on the sale and marked as a non-buyer, why would you need to wait for the fees in order to re-offer? It's not as if listing costs you anything.

So, you have to give a buyer three weeks before you can claim back FVF.

Then you have two and a half months until you can no longer claim back FVF.

Received a second email from eBid:

"You have a window of opportunity to claim back FVF's after 20 days. Reclaiming during this period is instant and automatic. Our experiences has shown that 20 days is a fair weighted average. Any less and there could be complications if refunded and then other issues come to light. This does not effect your option to re-list during this period if you feel that the sale is not going to go through. There are many reasons for delays, such as unexpected sickness. You have up to 75 days from the 20 day period to reclaim your refund."

In some ways I can see their point..in other ways I don't.

As a "venue", holding on to a seller's FVFs for an extended period of time has no advantage for them and seems to interfere with the seller's set payment time frame.

As a toys and collectibles seller, I have a lot of wanters and wishers who choose Buy Now and I never hear from them again. I suspect most are children who don't realize that Buy Now means you actually didn't Buy Now until you have sent a payment.

Its a matter of inventory and one of a kind items. I can't close out one sale until the FVF is refunded. When relisting before the FVF is refunded can lead to bookkeeping errors and more open slots to put on hold.

And yet another email from support...a bit snide if you ask me.

"We should also say that we recognize the point you have raised and are discussing internally. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday."

Fair enough. We all have our own way of doing things.

Woah!!! They often finish their weekend mails with "enjoy the rest of your Sunday". What's snide about that!? (Sorry, I'm really not trying to disagree about everything, honestly!)
