...to subscribe to these weekly magazine that have items on the cover that complete something over a period of time - e.g. parts to make a scale model of wooden ship over 52 weeks.

There's one being advertised at present - a Star Wars chess set in 32 parts. At 7.99 GBP per week that means the chess set is going to cost you just over 255.00 GBP (not sure if the board is included).

All these seem a total rip-off, with the end product being worth far less than you have to lay out.

Plus, what happens if the company vanishes part way through the series?

Plus, if I wanted to build something I wouldn't want it to take the best part of a year to do it.

Seems like total madness to me.

A mate of mine bought one, not to build something, but with each edition he got a Lord Of The Rings figure. It took about 2 years to get them ...then they decided that "due to popular demand" they were going to issue a load more figures. I think it was something like £5.99 a fortnight for 4 years. So he ended up spending over £300 on them. They are now in the loft because he has nowhere elde to put them.

Some people must do it, or enough people to buy at least enough issues of them to make it worth while for the publishers to keep going. These types of magazines have been going for years now.

used to get the perfume on but ended up smelling like a middin so stoped it. did well on the second one I started to collect, it was a re issue of the 1960's Sindy dolls, I bought the first one, they sent me the second one and then discontinued production and they sent all the rest of the dolls they had done to that date free all 6 of them.
