Thread: No bids on my listing am i doing something wrong

Default No bids on my listing am i doing something wrong

Having listed thousands of items on another selling site I thought I would give Ebid a go,but todate I have had no bids and not many lookers either.
Got 81 lots listed 20 lots finnished and I relisted them.
On the other site many of these items would have sold so I am very dissappointed with my results so far on Ebid.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong.

I can't see anything major wrong. Some things that could help though...

    • If you are willing to combine postage on multiple orders - say so.
    • Include details of your sales and returns policies either on the listing or on your About Me page.
    • Include a Buy Now price; even if it is more than you would expect to get for the item. This will enable submission to Google Products - giving more exposure (plus someone might pay it). Most items seem to sell outright, rather than by auction, nowadays.
    • You really do need to list with thumbnails - particulary for such as postcards.
    • Look at what other sellers in your field are doing - see if you can learn anything from them.

what are thumbnails and is it more costly to do so.
I always combined postage costs thought it was common place on all sites but will mention next time I list something.
regards for you thoughts and help

Martin, I have over 400 items for sale and in the last month, I have sold none here whereas on the other side I sell about 10 items a day.

It is such a shame but without buyers this is a bit of a time consuming site, really.

They are the small images that appear when users search or browse the site.

As a basic Seller you need to list as Platinum listings to get the thumbnail (you already do it for about 50% of your items - but I feel all should have them). This does cost extra (5p on listing I think). For Seller+ it costs nothing extra on listing, but does attract a fee of 2% of the item price on sale. General consensus seems to be (and I agree) that people tend to skip over listings without thumbnails when browsing or searching; being more likely to click through and view those that have the thumbnail.

Combining postage costs may be common, but not everyone does it. It doesn't hurt (or cost you more) to say you do. With such as postcards you can ship several for the same price as one. Knowing they are not going to take the postage hit for every item may induce a buyer to purchase more than one item at a time.

The more information you give up front about your trading policies, the more inclined a potential buyer may feel to choose you over some other seller who doesn't give that information.

Please use lower case in your item description and not all caps - very hard to read otherwise.

Very true, in fact Google's search engines reject ALL CAP listing titles as a general rule.

Agree with Mel, do use BINs and thumbnails in your listings, many buyers won't look at listings without thumbnails. You can also use Plug Your Auctions (1x per 24 hours) and social networking sites (as Twitter and FB) to advertise your items. You may want to contact former customers on other sites to let them know you're selling here.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

It may certainly be slower here than on some other big sites, however I have had quite a few sales this month , and haven't had a month yet without a sale....... so my advice would be to keep trying...... its not a fortune in fees here thats an huge advantage!
